Beautiful video! It reminds me my road trip in a car with my family in 2019, I wish one day I will do it again on a motorbike like you!

HI Chris, where do you stay the night in Mt. Cook Village? It seems that I can't find any accomodations up there? The only one I found was YHA Mount Cook and it's always fully booked.

Jalan Darat MOTOVLOG I stayed at one of the chalets. It can get very busy in Spring and Summer. I booked many months in advance

Hey Chris I was thinking about going south in the holidays on my R3 any good tracks or roads to go fast around hills near Nelson ??
@chrisleecalpoly3 жыл бұрын
I have not ridden the upper half of South Island, unfortunately. However, if you do venture further south, there is this relatively quiet stretch of road between Duntroon and Oamaru (via Ngapara) that is quite smooth flowing and fun. There is a landmark called the Elephant Rocks nearby that could be a unique photo-op. Other than that, most of the main roads are very scenic and relaxing, especially the Southern Scenic Route, and the Devil's Staircase heading northbound into Queenstown. Thanks for supporting my channel!

I'm booked for SMPTs 23 day self guided tour of both islands starting on 12 November (same time of year you rode). The first part of my tour looks like it takes the same route as you took. Any comments or suggestions that would be helpful? Long rides are no problem - I rode 8,200 miles to Fairbanks & back in July.

23 days? Lucky man. Personally, think I would have spent a bit more time off the bike, between Queenstown and Wanaka, exploring hiking trails. For riding, I would have liked to spend more time in The Catlins, also some of the twisty roads on my trip from Aoraki to Oamaru. I also wished I had more time to spend, hiking some of the scenic trails on Milford Road - Lake Marian. You can always take the ferry over to north island and explore the roads there!

Hi Chris nice to see the video i am actually planning to do rent motorcycle from SPMT and ride across South island ..Is that F700 GS you riding ? if so whats the fuel performance per litre or gallon ..Plus how long can i ride a day in NZ roads before fatigue catch me to stop the bike ..I read in forums people saying best is just 2 hours of riding time a day in NZ ..I am from india and i had done 11 hours of riding here , I wish to do minimum 4 hours of riding time in NZ ..Please throw some advice about the entire trip .. Thanks

I rented an R1200GS. It can do 180+ miles before you need to look for a gas station. The rule of thumb is to refuel whenever you can, especially in remote locations. It's up to you on how much riding you plan to do in a day, depending on what else you plan to explore (by foot, hiking, etc.). Whatever distance you ride, I recommend stopping at least once every 90 minutes, to keep your body refreshed and alert. The good folks at SPMT are great at planning and recommending activities to do on your visit.
