Turangi to Tongariro National Park; followed Volcano Loop Hwy; SW on 47; west/south/north loop around the Park. South on 47; south on 4; SE on 49 through Ohakune; N on Highway 1.
Mount Ngauruhoe is known as Mount Doom in the LOTR series.
