Exciting Updates to New Zealand Student Visas - June 2024
We have some great news for international students and their families! Recent changes to New Zealand's student visa policies have made it easier for families to stay together while studying.
Key Changes:
Work Visas for Partners: Partners of students studying Level 7 or 8 qualifications specified on the Green List can now apply for a work visa with open conditions. This allows them to work in New Zealand while their partner is studying.
Updated Green List: The Green List has been updated to include the main Bachelor’s degrees and Bachelor Honours qualifications that lead to registration for certain occupations. These occupations require registration rather than New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) qualifications.
Support for Partner’s Visa: Students studying for registration qualifications can now support their partner’s application for a Partner of a Student Work Visa.
Domestic Student Status for Children: Partners who are now eligible for the Partner of a Student Work Visa can have their dependent school-aged children treated as domestic students. These children can apply for a Dependent Child Student Visa, allowing them to attend school without paying tuition fees.
