Yep! When the screens aren’t the main element of the scene and instead act as a background or enhancer if the story, they are great to use in rides! The new Zootopia ride here, Secret Life of Pets in Universal Studios Hollywood, Rise of the Resistance and the 2 E Ticket Harry Potter attractions in Universal have proven that these parks know how to use the screens effectively and correctly now

The exterior is well done, but to me the dark ride itself relies way too heavily on projected images. If audio-animatronics are too costly, then more moving 3-d set pieces should have been used, similar to what's seen in annual Xmas department store windows.

I do agree that there are a lot of creative uses of screens/projections in this attraction, however, 17:54 - 18:20 and 20:50 - 21:30 is still just too much screentime for me. It always feels so empty and cheap and unimaginative on top of giving motion sickness. I almost feel this way about 20:00 - 20:30, however, I think it's creative and not very long, so I'll give it a little credit.

13:05 I absolutely LOVE that Disney imagineers decided to show the pig lady as a prisoner, because SHE actually was supposed to be the original villain in Zootopia, NOT Bellweather. Mayor Swinton. This was back during the time when they were still going with the whole shock collar on predators story line. Good nod to the original script, and those in the know! 😁

As much as I'm not a fan of Disney's mantra to put IP into everything, I have to admit that the Frozen land in Hong Kong and this Zootopia land in Shanghai are exceptional.

I hope they bring this to California someday. I could see them redoing the Hollywood section in California adventure. That area has a lot of unused buildings just sitting there, so there's space to at least make a shrunken down version of Zootopia.

Yeah, but you also have to remember that in the case of Tokyo, the OLC completely owns it and finances it only licensing characters from Disney and in the case of Shanghai, they split the bills with a Chinese company, so Disney foots less than 1/2 the cost there, which is why they get the good stuff. Bob was also the one to fix California Adventure and Hong Kong to make them better reflections of the Disney brand as opposed to seeming like they were just cheap knock off parks and is currently overseeing the Paris Studios park improvement. It’s fair to say that Iger mandated more IP based lands and attractions, which isn’t my favorite requirement, but I don’t think it’s completely accurate to say he cares more about the eastern parks.

Shanghai Disneyland is such a weird park to me, and hardly a castle park… other than having a castle for the icon. It deviated away from most of the classics, no train, no it’s a small world- no Main Street USA, no Frontierland, and instead has IP lands like Zootopia and Toy Story Land. It’s also huge, like the pathways and open plazas sometimes remind you of Epcot, rather than Disneyland or even Hong Kong Disneyland- there’s no charm
