I re-did this FTP test as this one was a bust. You can watch that video here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZ7Kqn-krNCgepY

Good video. From a veteran zwifter: 1) Have a fan or fans on you even when outdoor temps are cold. As you experienced, you will get hot quickly. And staying cool will also improve your performance: you might have left a few watts on the table in your FTP test if you didn't have a good cooling fan. 2) Always have hydration at hand. 3) Put a towel over the handlebars or where you notice sweat hitting the bike. You were right to wipe down the bike after. Sweat can be extremely corrosive and damage bikes. When you're outside it is less an issue as wind and moving forward reduces the issue but with the bike stationary sweat can seep into the "joints" and corrode parts. 4) Try a mix of things: workouts, races, and pace partner rides. There are also a lot of open group rides where you just ride for an hours with others and the idea is to ride as a pack. Can be fun and makes the riding go quicker. 5) Use the companion app. 6) Have fun. Zwift is not only a great training tool. It's a great experience in and of itself.

Cracking effort mate.. That warmup was way too high resistance for you... See how the intervals feel and if they too easy maybe do the short ftp test again with the corrected ftp should be alot easier this time haha

Cheers Schlam! I've become a little bit addicted to Zwift atm. My FTP has already gone up. I'm going to make another vid soon on my first few races 👍 Thanks for watching and the comment.

Good job Ryan, looks like a costly bit of kit! Congrats on the 10 stone weight loss also, an incredible achievement 🎉

Some crazy big numbers in your warmup 🙈 well done for getting it done. Welcome to zwift and the paincave 😂

I went hard too early I think. Used my energy bar up in the warmup. Good way to learn though, be interesting to see the results in my next FTP test in about 12 weeks or so after I've had a few races.

Just saw your video now. I'm on the fence on buying either a wattbike atom or a tecx neo bike and play zwift myself. This video really made my mind up to buy one. Great video!
@RyanCondon Жыл бұрын
Thats great to hear. I dont know how good other bikes are as only ever used a Wattbike as my first smartbike but so far so good. There will be pros to each make I'm sure but the overall benefit of Zwifting is undeniable. Best investment into my fitness I think Ive ever made. Thanks for watching.

Good work Ryan - the first one is always the worst (unless you try Wahoo SYSTM). Don't get @MarkLewisfitness started on inspirational wall art 😂. 10 stone loss is amazing - if I can get close to losing 2.5 I'll be happy, but I love cake and the wife's cooking too much!!

😅 Who doesn't like cake and their wife's cooking!? I need something to go on the bare wall. Might buy one of those "hang in there" cat posters. Thanks for watching Andy 💪

Man you started the FTP test with Zwift supposing that your previous FTP was 289 watts.........off course you almost died.......😀😀. However it is likely that your real FTP is a bit higher than 150 watts. I would use that value for now and in a few months you can increase. Good luck!
@RyanCondon Жыл бұрын
Looking back on it now, those ramps were crazy high for a beginner. God knows where zwift got that from. I've done a new one and made a 2nd video about it, on the way soon 👍

@RyanCondon Жыл бұрын
I'd love to do a Triathlon one day, when I feel ready to and I'm a few lbs lighter. You should do one, why not? If you're good at running and cycling then make up for the swim or do a duathlon maybe?

I thought, I hope he changes his clothes to something less warm, and where are the fans?? He is going to overheat. And when I skipped back to see that warmup zwift gave you I was like nooo way is he going to do that! 5 minutes@500w? There are VERY few people who can do that 😅
@RyanCondon Жыл бұрын
You're right. Think that myself looking back. If you don't know any better and if the game gives you 500w for 5 mins then that's what I'll try 👍
