A new bioluminescence imaging technique developed by researchers at the University of Rochester and the University of Copenhagen has created highly detailed images of the movement of oxygen in the brains of mice. The method, described in the journal Science, will enable researchers to more precisely study forms of hypoxia in the brain, such as the denial of oxygen to the brain that occurs during a stroke or heart attack, and is already providing insight into why a sedentary lifestyle may increase risk for diseases like Alzheimer’s.

This is dope! Is the enzyme or substrate used in this imaging both reactive to oxygen and generates light? Or is the light a product of multiple compounds in a pathway?
