The betel nut or supari is an essential part of the Newari wedding tradition, symbolizing the acceptance of the bride and groom as a couple. The supari is usually presented in a special box, along with other traditional gifts such as sweets, fruits, and clothes.
During the Supari day ceremony, the bride's family welcomes the groom's family and offers them refreshments. The groom's family then presents the Supari and gifts to the bride's family and seeks their blessings for the wedding.
This ceremony is an opportunity for the families to bond and get to know each other better before the wedding day. It also symbolizes the union of the two families, and the acceptance of the bride into the groom's family.
