The actual secret no one tells you directly is you need to have Srvs action on the strings to get the muting just right. I started to learn this shuffle on a low action shred style guitar. It always sounded messy because its nearly impossible to mute the strings and play a single note while the string is just above the fret. Youll end up either fretting more notes, or your fingers will be too high to mute. You NEED to raise the action, refer to Srvs specific style. That way when you go to fret the single note, youll almost surely block the other strings. I switched to this set up for his specific style and its helping greatly. You dont need thicker strings, im using 10s. Im sure you can use 9s, or whatever you like. 1. Get the playing right, 2. Raise the action and youll be the results.

Hi Alberto, You’re not going to believe this, but the SRV Signature Licks book by Wolf Marshall published in 1991 transcribes P & J with all eighth notes. Thank you for teaching me the shuffle, sounding the first and third triplets of each quarter note. As we say in the USA, “that’s a whole different ballgame!!!!” It’s hard to believe that the book is inaccurate.

Wolf Marshal is a very good transcriber, there is likely an Indication close to the Clef saying “shuffle” or “swing” or 8th equals etc ☺️
