Thanks for the video on Newbern Keith. William Christenberry also documented from time to time a Green Barn in the area. Visiting that may have been interesting. Also, in the general vicinity is the town of Sprott where Walker Evans took a famous picture of a general store that I believe Christenberry revisited. The front of the store has been blown away but the building still stands and its interesting to try to recreate the angle on the shot (figuring Evans was probably shooting it with a Rolliflex camera. Also, in Demopolis is another Christenberry building with the 5 cent sign on it that Walker Evans revisited. Finally, Tuscaloosa has the Drish Home that was in the famous Tuscaloosa Wrecking Company picture taken by Walker Evans.

Thanks for the nice comments! I was right there near the green barn and didn’t even see it! I’m hoping to get to demopolis this coming week actually!

What a cool idea by Auburn University to preserve the exteriors while updating the interior and making use of the space. Imagine the sound when heavy rain would pound the metal on the outside walls of that building. Those two building across the street with the large gnarly trees were my favorites in the video. Shopping carts sure end up in the craziest of places sometimes. Thanks for the town tour! Have a great weekend...

Thanks for watching Charlie! I'm trying to understand where that shopping cart may have even come from! I don't think there's a grocery store for quite a distance.

Grew up there poor but didn’t kno it. I was happy when my people took me to the dollar store and buy shoes next town over.. going to Walmart in Demoplis was like going to the mall for real….Didn’t have AC with metal sheets on roof till I believe 1996 when we got a window ac for kitchen. I mean the heat was crazy. Enjoyed hunting and fishing when u wanted.. as always people ended up leaving and some stayed. I’ll love to retire there and add on land

Sence you have awakened my photo hobby, when I travel I look for things that interests me to photograph. Thank you but I have a problem I sometimes have appointments in the same town so on the second trip I take my camera and take photos. The kicker there is that I did this the other day, leaving 2 hours early, well I got lost and was late for the appointment . Was still fun LOLOLOLO

Hi, my friend. A brilliant video, Keith. Great buildings and fantastic photos. The appearance of these buildings is history, they tell a story. And that's what I love about the photos, they have a soul and tell something about the past. The building with the rusted sheet metal does stand out. What a beauty there is. But the other buildings are certainly no less. The vegetation behind the windows is really great to see. The little house with the big tree is the winner for me today. What a beautiful print this is. Those white buildings in a row are also a very nice picture, friend. The detailed photos of the blistered paint are also very nice, I like this kind of work. Too bad we lose so much image quality with KZbin. Superb print that shows you very nice contrast and tonality. The last picture of that tree is really very beautiful, my friend. Take care of yourself and your loved ones, my friend. Antoine.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments Antoine! I enjoy finding places like this where there is so much richness in the region that I can spend an entire day shooting and come back with may more images than I could ever put into a single video.

You kind of missed a William Eggleston moment by not photographing the old building through the shopping cart ala tricycle. Loved images.

Another great video, Keith! I'll admit that I'm not familiar with Mr. Christenberry (I do know of Eggelston and Evans, though)kk but I love these old buildings. Thanks for taking us along.
