what would you say to a player who just started playing tekken and wants to hit blue ranks some day?
@notrampy3 ай бұрын
just learning all the combos doesnt make u better, learning when to execute them will be important. I learned to use all the king's chains grabs and combos but i cannot hit them against high rank players.

also, learn your character's punishment moves. knowing how to block and punish in tekken is a really important skill to have in getting to high ranks

Try learning matchup knowledge too. Of course after getting your character down. If it feels overwhelming. Think of the most popular most played characters. List them on a document to learn. And go from there. It may take a long time to apply. But the knowledge builds up and will probably take you past fujin. I’m trying with my Jin. tdlr/gist:list common characters you meet in ranked or are popular and go into replays and lab them. If that’s not an enough go into session matches and find a fujin or higher playing that character and practically test yourself playing against them. Repeat with the list. In a few months you will be so much better.

Just play, learn as you go, use the replay system to figure out what you can and can’t do in situations ur clueless in and learn punishment on strings or moves as you go. And most of all enjoy yourself If u reeeaaally wanna learn as good and fast as you can and are willing to put in extra work, focus on fundamentals and do some defensive drills (phidx has some awesome beginners videos), learn how and when to side step and KBD (unless you’re king, his kbd is literally useless), work on your whiff and block punishment game, and learn how conditioning and reads work for your chosen character. I’d suggest learning one of the “fundies characters” as learning fundamentals with them is very intuitive and it’s pretty easy to get into good habits with these types of characters. Characters like Bryan Steve and Kazuya I’d personally say don’t count as “fundies” characters even tho most people consider them “hard to play and learn” in this context of “intuitive to learn fundamentals focused moveset” because Bryan, Steve and kazuya’s fundamentals are very obtuse and different to how Tekken fundamentals traditionally work and it’s pretty easy to get into bad habits with these kinds of characters that differ from why we’d consider traditional Tekken fundamentals. Characters like lili, dragunov, Claudio, Jin, Paul, and Shaheen are really good picks if you really do want to go down the path of learning ur fundies as quickly as possible. That being said at the end of the day it’s about having fun so if ur not enjoying urself or not vibing with these characters then learning good and fast is still possible with any other character, just gotta be mindful of your habits so u don’t pickup any bad ones.
