Newcastle 1-1 Brighton | Braced for bids for Isak & Guimaraes

Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion in their final home game of the 2023/24 campaign.
United still have two away games to play as they look to secure European football for a second season in a row, but were unable to sign off at St. James' Park with a victory on a sunny day on Tyneside. They did, however, fight back to earn a point which could yet prove vital when the final ball is kicked next weekend, following trips to Manchester United and Brentford.

There's been one or two reports from fans on social media saying Bruno Guimaraes was upset and crying after full-time - he wasn't, he was nursing the injury & taking a rest, waiting on the players tunnel to become clear with so many of the staff, players and players' family down there. This is a made up story. That's why we didn't cover it. Let us know if you think Bruno & Isak will stay on beyond the summer, and can we still reach Europe?

Sam was very harsh on Miggy. Miggy was asking for the ball before it was actually played through to him so Miggy being offside was Harvey Barnes' fault though him diving when he would have beaten the defender if stayed on his feet isn't excusable. That was very naive and desperation is now kicking in.

the defender caught miggy with a boot edge looking away sneaky but not worthy of a dive..we are not Jürgen Klinsmann.. missed some Wilson in front to finish last min.. but is it a flu goign thru or a heat illness. i think tino picked it up when he saw trips gettign ready. and we were slow to sub the rdy men at stoppages

Can we remember longstaff has been playing with a foot injury the near entire season, frequently having painkilling injections so we can make the numbers, providing he has the surgery during the offseason he should be improved for next off course he’s never going to be a Bruno but when he’s not been available he’s been sorely missed

If Bruno was that weak like what those two reports claimed, he doesn’t deserve to be wearing this Newcastle shirt anymore. We have been using Bruno heavily every week; those fans need to know better instead of spreading those so-called “reports”. This kind of negativity has been spreading around and must be stopped. There are still two games to go, and the competition of 6th is still wild open (little chance to still catch 5th as well) and we are still 6th. Focus on our games and we will be fine. Yeah it’s 2 points dropped but I think some of our fans have disrespected Brighton too much. The draw somehow is the fair result in my opinion, but I blame the starting lineup from Howe and the diving from Miggy at the end; also the team have always dropped back since we have another game in 3 days while the fans expected too much from the players who just backed from long term injuries. Lots of these issues can easily create the pressure to our players and staffs. It’s not good for us. I can’t accept the argument of why sub off Isak. Do you want him to play the full 90 mins, still have no effort and then totally drained out more while he has to go again on Wednesday??? I would prefer the changes than keeping him on the pitch for absolutely nothing.

I disagree with Sam. It was a delayed pass by Barnes that caused the offside. Miggy is fast and he was calling for the pass way before he made the run. Barnes is just to ponderous. Poor first touch when he was one on one with the defender ended up him fouling his defender and earning himself a yellow. Barnes is an expensive mistake.

Longstaff scapegoated because of ability, but most of the season Bruno is only showing this supposed amazing ability he has in occasional patches. And Longstaff has been playing injured. Bruno deserves the heavier criticism.

Wilson has missed 24 games this season..... We have a lot better press when he plays BUT he just doesn't play enough .... We desperately need another Striker. Anderson is not good enough and our midfield today was too one paced.....

So much to say here. I am hopeful. This is heartfelt. This is the end of the beginning. Enjoy it. We'll come back to that. I was more worried about Brighton than the other two matches. Even being at home. Even with our appalling away form. Lee, I commented with you a couple months ago live that Europe was great, but not a necessity for me. What was more important was how we cross the summer into next fall. As of the 12th of May, I think we make it to Europe. But, this is more important: Please football gods, hear me and let us f'ing wreck Manu in their house on the 15th. Despite "deserves got nothing to do with it" (tip of the cap The Unforgiven), please let it be. Despite the lure of finishing above hated Manu, there is the real value of getting to Europe to sell our brand and the project. There is no reality where the man reds defeat the man plastics. As such, we can achieve both our goals by the grace of the football gods. Even should we somehow not make Europe and the cursed reds win yet another trophy, its little matter. As I said, this is the end of the beginning. Again, we'll come back to that. Lee, thanks for the shout out. Appreciate the nod about Miggy leaving, but all stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end. At least good stories do (MCU please learn this). I could do 30 minutes with you live on the beginning, middle and end of Miguel's time with us. I would share that I think I finally understand what you Geordie's feel about the locals that come through the club at any level. Miggy is not one of your own, be he is one of mine in a strange way. And I unrepentantly love him for what he has contributed to the club. I would make a wish for all toon fans that a player they really care about come to the club and contribute. I can only hope for you all. And contribute he has. Yes the purple patch was glorious, but for me his heart and smile will always be remembered. Many names have contributed far less, yet live on in our great lore. There was a moment in the sun when Miggy, Bruno, and Trippier genuinely baffled the league, and I am grateful for that. Also that goal in Atlanta in the house he helped build was a thing of magic. I cannot imagine a player ever coming to the club that I could more identify with, despite mine and his association being a mere 3 year stint in Atlanta. He was a god here. To me, his heart will always shine black and white. As for next fall, as I mentioned, the beginning is over. Lets get into that at last. I think Isak and Bruno both stay and I don’t want either to leave even for 100M+, But should either, we are finally ready to capitalize on that. With Tonali back, and a summer window, we will be an absolute terror next fall. And 100M+ if one of them leaves? And if we don’t have Europe to fill our weeks? Please. That was our easiest game of our final 3 and we go and drop 2pts. Could have been worse, mind. We were far from dominant today. There’s every chance now manure beat Arsenal tomorrow. Like us, they’ve blown hot and cold all season long. Can’t see us beating them at Old Twatford. There’s too many ‘bottlers’ in our team. Even Brentford away on the final day will most likely finish a draw. So, no, I can’t see us qualifying for even the Mickey Mouse Europa conference. What a sh1te one this season has been. This time last season, qualifying for CL. Now going and life and death for a Europa tinpot competition, and failing. Wow! Oh! and a cringey lap of appreciation nonsense because all this is like, important or whatever. What a joke!
