The Gang Shows are great and will provide many wonderful memories for those who participated. Myself, I was in two Gang Shows, the last one being in 1966 as a Wolf Cub when we and the Boy Souts still wore traditional old style uniforms (which changed in 1967).

So many great memories of the Gang Show. In the 1970s I was a Scout leader in West Yorkshire, then Assistant Group Scout Leader. During this time I was the accompanist to our Gang Show in Todmorden, West Yorkshire when we had a full orchestra of volunteers. A sad moment today (22nd September 2024) as we will be mourning the loss of our Musical Director tomorrow, Winston Sutcliffe. A great loss to his family, friends and to me.

Seems to be a lot of girls in this show. I assume it’s guides and scouts now. Just scouts when I was young. Good show though. Last one I ever saw was in 1991!

Nigel....we do allow a max of 24 Guides but in most shows there are between 12 and 18. The remainder of the girls are "girl" Scouts. The cast is usually almost a 50/50 split. Unfortunately our 2021 Show at Easter has had to be cancelled but all being well we will be back as strong as ever at Easter 2022

@@geoffcoulson1 A “girl” scout is a guide is it not?! If not do we have “boy” guides now? I wish scouting had stuck to tradition.

@@nigelkthomas9501 Nigel....what you have to remember is that The Guide Association is entirely separate to The Scout Association. Guides do not allow boys in BUT The Scout Association started letting girls under 14 in from 1991 (altho Venture Scouts (16+) were allowed girls from 1986).

@@geoffcoulson1 Pfff! Why? Why couldn’t the scouting association stand firm against feminists? Strange how there’s no boy guides! Discrimination works both ways.
@geoffcoulson13 жыл бұрын
@@nigelkthomas9501 It had nothing to do with feminists...The Scout Association felt that inclusion was the way forward. It had been many years since Schools had segregation and it appeared that only the Scouts and Guides stuck to the "old school" values....times change and if you don't adapt, you get left behind. Very few people in Scouting were against girls joining and looking back it was the right time.
