I didn't grow up in Newcastle, I was a Milton lad, but these images still bring me lots of good feelings and nostalgia for the "good old days". I miss them, and they will never I'm sad to say come back. Thank you for the memories :)

Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories but it saddens me to see what Newcastle has become it is a shadow of its former self.

Newcastle was a real quality town when I grew up in the sixties. Blockleys deli, Burgess bakery, Mandley and unett stationers, Mellards ironmongers , the list goes on. Nan had a chip shop on Liverpool road, it's still there ,so I remember the by pass being new, then the old croft street and Ryecroft school were demolished in the early seventies to complete the ring road. They demolished the old Muni hall to move into the civic offices, they're now due for demolition, what a waste to build for fifty years, the college, c of e school and fire station only lasted that long as well. R I P Newcastle.

I can remember this carnival my daughter was three and my mum. Myself walked all round the charity stalls hoping to win a prize then on to the plant stalls then sitting down by the queen's Gardens watching the parade. Good happy days. All we get now is pubs open all day with a glorified music festival its not a family time anymore. Thanks for the video enjoyed it

Very good Wayne. Someone was quite rich owning a cine camera in the 60s/70s!! This is my home town and i've lived here 66 years so know the area very well. What stood out to me on this film was EVERY vehicle on the road was British (i spotted just one VW Beetle!).....no Honda, Toyota, BMW or Audi to be seen anywhere!!!

glad you like it. the Cine8 camera belonged to my friends late granddad, he shot all the footage and i put it on dvd a few years back. yes its interesting to see how things have changed, Newcastle is such a different place now i think.

Simpler times. I was more than likely at the 1977 Carnival watching the parades and going around the various stands for raffles etc.. The fun fair in what is now Morrisons car park was a light fantastic sight to behold when my father drove us home at night.

Newcastle had character then. Not like the shit hole it's become now. most of the shops have gone . And the new civic offices, what were they thinking.

Very interesting - I used to go there on Mondays in a Cattle truck to the market in the late 70s. There was a big haulage company that had red and black lorries, lots of them in a depot back then but I can't remember the name of the company

The early part of the film appears to have been filmed in 1963, as at forty seconds in, we see the old Roxy cinema being demolished, six years after its closure in 1957.

1977 the carnival,i was 10 years old then.i can still remember the funfair at the old cattle market and the gas cylinder in the background.ohhhhh the good old day's.the day's when everyone enjoyed Newcastle carnival every year.now today you get the likes of young pisshead yobs who ruin it for all decent families and kiddies.i'm 46 now but loved the old days.everyone was having fun and so relaxed. :-)

I can remember a few people who liked a drink back then too and some weren't far off being called yobs - I was one of them - a drinker not a yob :) Young men like a drink - that will never change :)

Very good video but i have to query something. Is the carnival definately 1977 because I am sure I saw my brother on the racing bike. He said it could be him but older. Also I saw someone that looks like my dad pushing a buggy with a child in that would be about 2. If thats the case that would be me in the buggy and I was born in 1977 so would this be 1979.
