I think the Zildjian hi-hat wins, but the Stagg crashes and the ride are so much better. Especially in terms of the crash-ability and they've got a lot more body and warmth. I like the SH hi-hats tho, but the Avedis hi-hats aren't that easy to beat :D

Staggs are great cymbals, here they have a lower pitch compared to the Zildjians , in my opinion i like lower pitch cymbals(like Paiste 2002 series) Staggs are brilliant, i have a whole set of them and i will never have to spend more money on expensive cymbals like Zildjians or Sabians as i have a whole range of sizes and styles to choose from the Stagg cymbals. Great cymbals, do not get fooled by the big names, Stagg cymbals will deliver and compete with any other top brand.

I have allways been pointing to Zildjian cymbals, their sweet ride and new beat hihat are good, but Stagg SH 14" hihat and crashes has such a beutiful sound!

For anyone wanting to by Stagg cymbals: They are amazing cymbals, I have about 10 of them, all SH series because the DH and Darker series sound really dull and dark. But the SH are really nice cymbals, they bring a nice bright sound and the sound of them sizzles in your ear. They are durable and even though they are cheaper than a lot of other cymbals, in my opinion they surpass any other cymbals, before you ask, yes I have played zildjian and other brands but everyone has their own preferred sound. So don't judge a book by it's cover.

The stagg sh medium 20 ride is the most versatile ride cymbal I know. You can play jazz to metal on it. Great bell bow and crash sound. Highly recomend it!

funny, but i just thought it's other way around :) started with SH line but always found them to dark, now i have DH and Myra and them are just more "alive" than SH's. Started with Stagg 10 years ago thru my dealer.

The classic Avedis Zildjian cymbals are awesome. Although, I don't like that 16 inch shown in this video. Sounds too splashy for a crash. The medium thin 18 inch is money.

I prefer Stagg over Zildjian I never understood why everyone likes Zildjian SO much; don't get me wrong Zildjian makes good hi-hats and rides but I don't care much for anything else they make, to me Stagg have more personality to them ever since I've tried Stagg I love em, their SH series is probably their worst series even though I still like them but if you buy a Stagg cymbal try the DH's or even the Classic's (if it fits your type of music/preference)

I have a Stagg SH medium 16, and I get too much stick attack which personally makes me want to over emphasize the kick to cover it up..which has given me problems recording. So I ordered an A med/thin 18, I hope it's smoother with less "stick smacking" sound.. and more wash.

Problem is I can never find a place where these cymbals are sold, the only things I ever see at drum shops are usually just Paiste, Zildjian and Sabian (of course the really mainstream brands)

Stagg's much stronger. I owned a 16 inch crash for 10 years before it broke. My Zildjian broke after 5 years, but the sound was better...

no hay ganador. pero hay algo que es realidad. se trata del precio. stagg vale muchísimo menos dinero. no se justifica pagar tanto por los zildjian, igual zildjian es la marca número uno del mundo. stagg es una opcion mas que interesante

You must compare Stagg DH line, with the A customs. they sound lighter than SH series. I know because i started with SH but made a transfer to DH and Myra. Sensa is too dark for my taste, DH is perfect mix. Zildjian has way too high pitch in their A's, never did like that.

and in this line up. STAGG ride is a tie, STAGG SH-crash is minus, STAGG hihat is to dirty and dull. So, Zildjian wins this one. But, try the DH series line and Myra and you'll be amazed! :)

@MaggotHobbs There's no such thing as an entry level cast cymbal. The Z3's are more focused towards metal players, which desire volume and attack over tone. It just so happens that that type of cymbal costs less to make.

Kinda, the thing is SH's go through hammering only once (SH means Single-Hammered) and DH's go through hammering twice (DH means Double-Hammered)

No había oído a Stagg , sin embargo por lo que comentan son baratos, en mi punto de vista no me latieron, acaso el Ride si suena muy bien, pero sus hi hats suenan a cacerolas para ser Cast no me gustaron y el crash siento que le falta algo jajaja obvio me quedo con Avedis pero los otros suenan bien si son baratos pueden ser una buena opción :D

i am big fan of zildjian cymbals but when I saw this video i think that stagg is more cheaper cymbals but they have much warm sound then zildjian ...stagg is very good cymbals mark...almost like zildjian , ALMOST ... :D Sorry for bad English :D

Some of those stagg cymbals sound like trash cans. The Hi Hats sound like a pair you would find on a kids set at Toys R US. The Zildjians sound much better even though it is an entry level cast.

The stagg SH hats open sound really trashy not sure if that's a good thing or not. Staggs can be great cymbals IF you hand pick them!!! Case in point - I had 2 16" SH medium crashes side by side and the pitch of both was completely different, one sounded good and the other one sounded awful. Some have better sustain than others. If you choose carefully you can unlock some great sounds with Stagg but you have to buy carefully and be patient. If you only have time to buy off ebay etc then go for zildjian but if you have time to walk around drum shops then take the time to try out tons of stags. Drum shops wont appreciate you 'wasting' their time but its better then buying something that sounds garbage. Stagg DH exo crashes/splashes are really awesome! The DH splash I have sounds very bright and cutting - like some of the Sabian splashes but for a 5th of the price!

tophermonkey ---> Zildjian/sabian fanboy detected ! in my opinion zildjian cymbals are some of the most boring cymbals i ve ever heard, the A's and Z's series are just some overrated cymbals out of price, with a non-interesting tone, it's not bright, it's just loud and blow your ears off whenever you play them, even the K custom series are way too loud, and it's a pain in the ass when your drummer have these on his kit, you can't hear a shit during the rehearsal (except the K constantinople and the old avedis maybe).., and at 250/300/400 € and more per cymbal it's not worth buying these, on the other hand maybe the staggs are a bit more crackable, but all of their series have an interesting tone, the Sh and Dh medium/thin series are very bright, powerfull, the 17" and 18" crash are very deep, and for a cymbal you can buy around 50/100 € it's really amazing ! (and it does'nt blow your ears off when you play these ! )

Redbulldozer13 well even with brushes you can't get ride of these fucking high frequencies the K custom produce, it's terrible during rehearsal, it hurts your ears directly, and on the other hand the A's are just way too loud !, In studio it's even worse, the sound is pissing inside your mics, you have to put some tape on it to reduce the sustain... only the old avedis (jazz ride, old rock crash) and k dark series are very good. And again the drummer in my band is a jazz drummer, he uses dowels and drumsticks and even tho it cuts through our tube amp, and explode directly in your ears ! yuk ! only his Istanbul, Agean and Stagg cymbals are pleasant..

Redbulldozer13 again it's a matter of taste, but even if it sounds good to you when you re behind the kit, people just don't seem to realize it can be a real pain in the ass for your bandmates ! + i never had any problems with paiste, stagg, and istanbul, dry tone, lot of low frequencies, just match the sound of our amps live and during rehearsal, it just does'nt blow your ears off...

Have you tried any of the regular K series, as opposed to K Custom? I personally love them because they have a darker, less abrasive tone than the A Customs and K Customs. My 20" K Ride is my baby! It still has clean stick definition over a warm, dark wash, and crashing it yields a pleasant, mellow sound. I think you should check them out.

Yeah, Staggs are not bad, however it has a long way to go to be close to a zildjian. Definitely, you get what you pay for. If there was a comparison between stagg and zildjian, stagg would be pricier and period. Specially the stagg 16", sounds horrible, way too thin for a medium crash.

the avedis, a lot of them, sound like metal....a metal with some sustein...just a claaaanggg, cliiinggg. The only avedis i played that sounded amazing was a 14" a custom fast crash....memorable! but the ping rides, avedis crashes, etc don't worth anything...unless you are a punk drummer that plays a lot for big audiences. Staggs sh are terrible too. both are great examples of how the b20 alloy dosn't mean too much per se. The manufacturing process is as (or maybe even more) important as the alloy. Generally speaking you can't beat a hand hammered b20 cymbal.

The Stagg SH are Hand hammered B20 cymbals. A few days ago I was in the store looking for new cymbals, and the guy in the store told me to try the new Stagg SH. I was looking at him like, Stagg? Seriously? But I tried them and I was very, very impressed by the sound. To me they sound at least as good as my Sabian AA/AAX and HHX.. But the guy in the store told me that you have to pick the right cymbal, because Stagg is also sending the bad cymbals out to be sold. He also picked the ones he liked the most for in the showroom. So, with the Stagg SH cymbals you have to pick the cymbal you like, just like you do with other hand hammered cymbals. And I really am a Sabian guy, but Stagg does make very nice cymbals. You just have to try them and don't think "pff, Stagg..". Give them a chance and you will be surprised. Especially if your budget is not high and you want the best you can get.
