This song with Vernon was actually written about a friend of his who suffers from depression and it is talking about wanting to be better but also knowing that others cannot make you better by trying to help you, that it is something you have to accept and take the steps yourself to seek help. the friend he wrote this song about actually helped with some of the lyrical content and chose the title for the song.

I recommend Joshua and Vernon’s “2 minus 1” song from seventeen’s attacca album that came out in 2021. I think it has a similar vibe with vernon’s solo and its also all in english. Joshua’s voice in this is also a bit different from his usual soft voice. Their live performance of this is beautiful. Hope you get the chance to check it out🫶

if my memory serve me right, woozi made the beginning of ruby as a ballad bc that was what everyone expected so he just started like that and then switched it to rock. a mastermind indeed. also, the red guiter is named ruby😅 the outro of black eye is just not an outro is a sentiment. it scratches the rights parts of my brain. as for recommendations, 'Hai Cheng' by The8 and 'What Kind Of Furute' by Woozi are my tops for solos. ⚠️WARNING, both are very emotional and personal, so be cautious and have some tissues ready.⚠️ also, WKOF is a song woozi worte back in 2018 for a concert and meant to be sang once but carats loved it so he sang it two times more in the last 6 years. when astro's moonbin passed away, woozi said (to him in an ig comment) that he would release it for moonbin on his bday this year, bc he loved it and asked woozi to be released. it's gonna be a wild ride but i hope you react to both songs together♡ thanks for rhe reaction as always.

The solos are surprisingly matching each others vibes well, with spider and psycho last time and now Ruby and black eye! 😂💘 Ruby is just a masterpiece, woozi really did his thing on that song and I loved his pronunciation! Black eye holds a special place in my heart, like the punk rock vibes?! He said his inspiration was Avril Lavigne and you can definitely hear it in the track! Vernon said that Black Eye is about a friend both he and the other composer/writer knew well. I also thought at first it was about his previous struggles being bullied/isolated to the point of dropping out of school but he mentioned in an interview that it's about a friend. Vernon went through a lot of things during his childhood and youth for being "different", but Black Eye isnt inspired by his story, its just a character he created. Where he talks a little about his past is in the hiphop unit's song "Trauma" (but it's little) and in "Lizzie Velasquez" (an old song that he composed when he was 16 or 17). Thanks for reacting to Black Eye! Vernon is SO underrated in the fandom so you will hear little about him, but he is so talented, an ace who is also the 2nd producer and composer of the group! Black Eye is Seventeen's best solo song so far imo. Vernon composes different sounds and brings a lot of diversity to the group's discography, especially with the hiphop unit songs
