The game you were referring to with the Jelly Belly jellybeans is "Beanboozled". Fun game! I like the way you're taking the channel into slightly different territories. Also you mentioned that you wondered how they got the different flavors for the sodas. Basically what flavorists do is examine the chemical composition of the natural substance they're looking to recreate. Once the molecular structure is defined, flavorists draw on a range of compounds that matches the flavor profile of the natural flavor. It's a pretty arduous process.

That process by "flavorists" seems to fail miserably more often than not. Seems like you should just use the natural favor of the subject you are trying to create right? Simple, common, sense.

(I tried the ranch dressing one about ten years or so back, and my gf and I threw out the glass we put it in as well as the bottle, just to be on the safe side.) Contrary to popular belief, castoreum from beaver butts is not really used as an artificial vanilla flavour anymore, as vanillin is quite inexpensive to produce.

maybe you should try Kvass, beverage made from dried rye bread, this beverage is commonly known in eastern europe. The other thing is Podpiwek, I think it's specifically polish thing, usually made from grain coffee, hops, yeast and sugar (you can get DYI pack of ingredients). Both are made by the process of fermentation.

Here in Misery..uh, er I mean Missouri on Route 66 you can find the Fanning outpost. It's home the world's largest rocking chair and the store has over 300 varieties of soda to chose from! Crazy flavors you would never have thought existed. I will say bread and butter pickle was my favorite...😏 Bummer you got the cheap knock offs because quite a few do taste like the label says, try them cold next time I bet it makes a difference.👍

i think the "artificial" means, that there's no real meat in the bottles. i'm also still wondering if you got scammed with the hershey's cocoa powder. since it wasn't sealed, maybe the seller filled an empty container with actual dirt to get a better price for it. he probably didn't expect anybody to ever try to eat it

The Hershey's Cocoa on your shelf I believe is bakers cocoa. It's unsweetened and tastes really gross when it's a new can. I asked my mom for some when I was a kid, and she warned me that I wouldn't like it, so I tried it anyway and learned my lesson.

I think one was Brussels sprouts flavored, one was sweet potato flavored... I forget the rest, but you get the idea. The tastes were all subtle, but the fact that they mixed sugar into what would normally taste savory made them less-than-idea for my palate. 😆

The thing about something being artificially flavored with natural flavors just specifies that the flavor was derived from a naturally occurring thing. So it's not flavored with actual dirt, or mustard, but it "artificially" recreates the flavor from natural components.
