Interesting- I will have to agree to disagree simply due to, too many subway rides where that tile is associated with an odor. But the beauty of having your own kitchen is the freedom to design and add what makes you happy 😊

All of the kitchen trends AND the kitchens shown in this video are absolutely beautiful - and if you've got the money, why not? These kitchens are great for middle/upper-middle-class people with disposable income. One of the things that is so appealing is the absolute perfection of all of the different components. Thicker materials. Everything shiney. No scratches. No grime. However, trends come and go (and sometimes come back again) and things do get old - and the working class can't afford to be changing out kitchens (trust me, I know). For those of us who look at this video and say, "If only I ...," there are realistic things that people with very little income can do to upgrade the space tremendously: 1) get rid of anything you don't use, 2) wash, wash, wash, 3) paint cabinets, or even just touch-up knicks on old veneers and laminate countertops, 4) improve slowly and only as you can afford to do so; everything doesn't have to happen at once. Sometimes, something that is restored can be just as nice as something new. Our Depression-era parents, upon entering the middle class, didn't expect to have these kinds of luxurious kitchens - but they knew how to maintain and beautify what they could afford. Making do really isn't so bad most of the time. In fact, there is a certain quality of comfort in not having to be too careful around your things.
@LiveDenverSuburbs3 ай бұрын
Yes, Tim you are correct. As someone who has a 1996 kitchen the idea of changing it out every 10 year (the estimated life span of todays kitchen designs) seems ludicrous ! But there are cheaper ways to do a refresh and I have done videos on that very subject. Hope you enjoy them as much as this one. 😀

@@LiveDenverSuburbs I will watch your videos! Thanks! I am a big believer in the relationship of beauty to peace of mind - and almost everything that once was new was considered beautiful enough to buy when it was new. My mother had been a Depression-era baby and for most of her later life she had nothing of great quality - but boy, did she take care of what she had and it ALWAYS looked brand new! I think that, in our disposable, consumer society, we too often throw the baby out with the bathwater. And, there is absolutely NOTHING greener than simply keeping, and taking care of, what you already have. Take care! Have a wonderful day!

I have never thought subway tile was a good choice. It is often too busy and difficult to keep clean (not a fan of grout in any area that is used for food prep) imo.

We were thinking of moving to Sterling ranch couple years ago but some factors hold us back, what is going on with shopping plaza and school , when are they going to have one?
@LiveDenverSuburbs2 ай бұрын
I believe Douglas county is asking voters for an almost 500 Million bond for new schools in the sterling ranch, canyons and crystal valley areas, and I know earlier this year there was talk of partnering with a charter school but I think that fizzled out. Will all development whether for schools, apartments or shopping its hard to know exactly when this will all happen only that it will have to be addressed as the area continues to grow.

Yes, I think you are right- might work in a mid-century modern loft in Denver or a small house but most of the models I've looked at have their shelves hidden in cabinets. 😀

I don’t see the logic of a sink on an island where you have chairs on the other side. Sinks and surrounding area usually have stacked up unclean dishes which is not very aesthetic. While you or your guests are eating or socializing you will be looking at all of that. No thanks!

Interesting and valid point of view- did not really think of it that way as I see this design quite a lot out here in Colorado homes. Thanks for your input😀

it makes sense if the diswasher is in the island and realistically you probably wouldnt pile dishes up exactly because it is in view

THATS SQUARE TILE
@eattherich92153 ай бұрын
@1:34, I don't see that being adopted by mass homebuilders. There's no fake Shaker cabinetry or ugly stonework. The kitchen island is BAFFLING to me, but I don't live in North America. It seems like a massive waste of space. @3:35, the white subway tile is timeless, BUT you can stack them rather than doing the usual brick pattern layout. @3:47, horrid. @4:15, open shelving is STUPID. Whatever you put up their will become coated in a sticky residue. @4:47, those lights are just weird. @6:30, when are builders going to start putting counter depth refrigeration instead of those jutting monsters?
@LiveDenverSuburbs3 ай бұрын
Thanks for you input. Not sure where you live but I know our kitchens tend to be large and the island helps divide up the space while also allowing for extra work space (i.e. cooktop, sink, food prep, etc. and it is the popular place for guests to hang out 😆
