This video is based off the story of Cupid and Psyche. Hoyeon plays the role of cupid and the man shes in love with is Psyche. Her in the rain at the end of the first video is her shedding her god powers becoming human to be with the guy. at the end at the cross walk tony leung is Venus making her a god again and making the guy fall in love with another girl. NewJeans are like guardian angels looking over her making sure shes doing her job.

NewJeans are actually The Muses in Greek Mythology. They sang the story of Eros and Psyche! This is what they're doing throughout both versions of the track. I think we just need to concrete whether it's Aphrodite or Venus that Tony Leung plays. I was under the impression it was Aphrodite who tasked Eros to shoot Psyche with an arrow to fall in love with the most despicable creature on earth and accidentally, Eros, cut herself on the arrow and fell in love with Psyche who rivaled Aprhodite in Beauty. Aphrodite wasn't happy being rivaled as she's the Goddess of Beauty so she wanted to stop Psyche and her (his in this MV case) beauty.

NewJeans were like watchmen trying to warn Hoyeon that what she was doing was wrong. In the scene where the couple breaks up, Hanni stares intensely at Hoyeon judging her because now that she's in love she isn't able to do her job properly. In the bus scene we see Minji observing how Hoyeon is obsessed with the man. Near the end we have NewJeans watching from afar as Hoyeon approaches the guy while he sleeps and Hoyeon looks at newjeans with a look of concern because she also knows that what she's doing is wrong. But in the end she surrenders to that love and makes her transition from cupid to human to live that love. In the post-credits scene when newjeans are doing their "we told you, now we don't give a fck" dance perfomance it's almost like Hoyeon blamed NewJeans for what happened even though the girls always made it clear to her that what she was doing was wrong and it wouldn't end well.

The gist of the roles in the MV’s are basically Cupid (hoyeon) psyche (the guy she likes in the mv) Aphrodite (tony) not too sure on what Newjeans roles are , could be just angels or muses. But there is a theory that Newjeans were the ones that told on hoyeon to tony, which is why he came down to put her back in her role as Cupid to set everything back as it was. (Probably to keep balance or smt) this could also be a reason why Newjeans are actively watching her all the time and at the end of side B hoyeon looks at the girls in disappointment for what they did to her.

I'm so reminded of Cupid and Psyche by this. Hoyeon plays the role of cupid while the male plays psyche in this music video. According to Greek mythology, cupid can marry psyche on the condition that she would never see his face. That is further supported by the painting, in the mythology, Cupid only pays a visit to Pysche every midnight -- the time in which Psyche will be unable to see his face due to darkness. That is why in the mv, the guy never sees hoyeon because it is prohibited. Additionally, in the part where hoyeon removed her clothes while raining depicts her coming to the gods to make a request to turn her into a human so that she could be with the guy she loves. So this shows that New Jeans plays the role of the greek gods and goddesses. While Tony Leung portrays Venus, mother of cupid who is against the love between him and psyche. So in the mv, tony aka venus removes the memory of hoyeon in the guy that's why we can notice the sudden disappearance of smile on his face when they are crossing the street. Hoyeon coming back to NJ aka gods and goddesses may portray of seeking some help again since in Side A, when hoyeon is making the request, NJ dances, which is the same when hoyeon came to them in Side B.

its a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid (hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony). this is the painting of love and psyche they were looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her guardian angels i believe, because they are the only ones that can see her. OR they could be the greek chorus because they're singing the events and narrating what is happening. hoyeon is cupid, her job is making people fall in love. but she starts wanting love for herself too and fell in love with a human- micol. and she abandons her job and just follows him around hopelessly. he can't see her, no humans can see her. (confirmed when hoyeon looks in the mirror and she has no reflection) at the end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in the rain and looks up at sky, it symbolizes her asking to become human; this is her own way of striking herself w cupid's arrow. side b picks off where side a ends, she is now human and we can see that because her clothes changes from an ethereal, flowy black fabric to regular human-like clothing, and people can now see her-- micol can see her. they start falling in love throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoeyon into a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status meaning micol can't see her and he forgets about the time they shared. ultimately tony made him fall in love with someone else (that girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job as cupid its such a heartbreakingly beautiful music video, with a deep meaning and a retelling of mythology. everyone wants love and deserves love, whether they are human or otherworldly being NJ mv are next level!!

It would definitely make sense that New Jeans are “The Muses” for Cupid Hoyeon. The Muses were well known for being storytellers in Greek mythology through music and performances! And they were known to be observers of tragedies and triumphs that gods/goddesses/heros/etc. Thus the girls are probably are watching as the story of Cupid (Hoyeon) and the beautiful Psyche (Micol) unfortunate love story as Aphrodite (Tony Leung) intervenes unfolds.

The gender roles were swappaed around, but yes, Hoyeon is Cupid, the man he fell in love w (Micol) is Psyche and Tony plays as Aphrodite, Cupid was neglecting his duty as a match maker since he fell in love and became a human and as a punishment Aphrodite made Psyche fall in love with another human being. Also NJ could represent a lot of things, like Cupid's consciousness observing her do things she knows she shouldn't be doing, or could be Aphrodite watching her, or maybe they're the greek muses singing about the tragic love story, or her guardian angels. It could be referenced to the film City of Angels too, but it's more accurate with the Cupid and Psyche since they showed the painting already, Shin Wooseok is a GENIUS😭

so since we know that Hoyeon and the guy represent Cupid and psyche, i thought that maybe new jeans represent the fates? they're the only ones that can see her while she wears the black clothes and it seems like they snitched on her to Tony too (I'm not sure who he represents yet). but it's known that the fates only assign destinies to mortals and cupid wasn't mortal. so, I'm not entirely sure who they really represent and they might just be like angel figures who watch to make sure she does her job.
