Please comment briefly on your ability to read Etruscian! Fifty years ago, I remember reading that the Etruscian language was indecipherable, which made this People all the more "mysterious." It appears I "haven't been keeping up with current events!" Thanks as always for helping my to recaall my years in Italy, and to learn miore about this wonderful country!

My thought exactly - I believe that we know how the letters/words are pronounced due to the relationship to the Greek and Latin alphabets but not what these words mean.
@AncientRomeLive9 ай бұрын
These are translations from the excavators and experts of Etruscan. We've come a long way from the basic info in textbooks. We know a lot more - many inscriptions have been discovered in recent years. These are mostly patronymics: X son of Y vowed this... pretty formulaic..

We currently have a good understanding of Etruscan language, not only in meaning but also in pronunciation. I remember my Greek class teacher in high school being part of this effort, many years ago. We also have some "leftover" in pronouncing in the Tuscan dialect (which mostly is the chosen Italian language)

Thank you, I truly appreciate your marvelous exploration of a site where the Etruscan Discipline enveloped the entire surroundings. I have studied the Etruscan Discipline for almost ten years, so for me this was a visual and emotional feast. After I finish writing I will be working in Photoshop to fully restore the exquisite example of an Etruscan Fulgur Conditum you displayed for us today. It reminds me that Jupiter and Summanus were two of the nine Etruscan Gods of Thunder that the Romans adopted. Summanus's temple anniversary is June 20th, and about a year ago I created a visual feast of lightning striking his mountain sanctuary in Italy at night. It was a pleasure and honor to listen to you as you showed us all the incredible bronze statues and figurines that I have yearned to see close up for years. Having watched a small sample of your wonderful work, I want to tell you how greatly I appreciate your fine work, simply amazing. Please know that your work is treasured.

It all looks very fresh, as if the Romans were still alive) Thank you!
Considering the etrsucans were centuries before the romans, its jaw dropping how increadible their written language/art was. I'm not sure why but I always looked at them as more primative for some reason. The romans conquered them so completely that I believe all the things they adopted from the etruscans were attributed to the romans but discoveries like this are clear evidence that the etruscans had an amazing culture/civilization before the romans.
@lucianolandi73079 ай бұрын
Point is that in this location, they found both etruscan and latin inscriptions, from the same period. This means the 2 cultures were alive both at the same time. There is no sharp cut between the romans and the etruscans, the ones just absorbed the others and they were alive at the same time.
@AncientRomeLive9 ай бұрын
Yes, they coexisted from the beginning. Some of Rome's kings were Etruscan, as well. In the end, though, the expansion of Rome's territory led them into direct conflict. Rome's conquest didn't mean the immediate demise of the Etruscan culture, but if you take a look at the entire peninsula, Rome's dominance led to the extinction of most of the other native Italic languages.
