Lighting is one of those things that are quite simple in theory, even technically... but man, how hard is to master it. Thanks as always! P.S: Not to mention this is one of the most underrated CG channels I know.

Damn thank you brother! And yes lighting is an easy thing to setup but a very tricky thing to setup right. It really makes the biggest difference in work quality imo

Great series and very helpful. I always struggle with good lighting, I guess its like always: Do it a lot and you will slowly get better at it haha. Dont know if that was mentioned before, but if you have no object selected and create a targeted area light, octane will automatically create a linked null object, so you dont have to set it up. Keep it up!

Hi, Can also make a video about the octane camera? & explain properties like the field of view, focal length (when to use which focal length), and distance from the subject.
@brandonblair65292 жыл бұрын
I agree GSG has a good tutorial about cameras and focal length

Yeah definitely looking at photography videos can help, but beyond that there are a few things that don't translate as much to CG, for example in photography the shutter speed affects both motion blur and exposure, F-Stop affects both depth of field and exposure, where in CG they dont. Also in photography there's a WHOLE thing with lenses and the difference betwenen each lens that just doesn't apply to CG. But as long as you understand these differences you can apply a lot of knowledge from the photography world.

Been trying forever to get gobos to work in octane
@NewPlastic2 жыл бұрын
Hopefully this cleared that for you, there's also a good video by GSG specifically about gobos you should check out

Hello, I am writing to you here because you do not reply to your email, I bought your pack of snow and ice materials some time ago and specifically the "snow" material when I use it, the system slows down a lot, (I have 2x3090) is there any update? Has anyone else complained? that material is the only one that gives me problems. Thank you
@NewPlastic2 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Totally missed the email, sorry about that. The snow material (and actually most other materials) have a high subdivision surface in the displacement node, so I would try and reduce the subdivision levels in the displacement node first. For example, you might be putting the surface on a model that already has enough polygons so the subdivision levels are too high for it and bog down the system. Haven't had any specific complaints about that material specifically, but people do overall ask me what to do when it bogs down their system, and that's usually because they dont lower the subdivision level. Try that and let me know!
