I was born in 2005 so i never grew up with toys from the 80's or early 90's, but this toy reminds me of the Simon game which came out around the same time as this. The simon game also uses light bulbs. Now everything uses L.E.Ds lol. One thing i find interesting is that there are these Halloween animatronic items that are called "Motionettes" the ones I'm talking about came out in 1988. They make a spooky generic sound that everyone who grew up in the late 1980's - late 1990's has heard lol. They use L.E.Ds for the eyes, but a an actual light bulb is used for a skull or pumpkin that is on one of the hands. I like how in old stuff like that you could actually replace the light bulbs (Not L.E.Ds) without soldering.
@DistinctlyAverageRepairs24 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I actually repaired an old Simon game in this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGPQhqB-o653o6c - it’s the pocket version but the technology is basically the same. Older stuff is definitely easier to repair, the circuit board on something like this game compared to, say, a Nintendo Switch are poles apart! Not to say you can’t work on newer stuff, it just takes a lot more concentration! 😀

Not to discredit your frankly amazing work, but I'm curious: if the ultimate problem was a single bent piece of metal, could this have been fixed by simply smacking it a few times, without any disassembly?

Technically, I could have just disassembled the little jack plug socket and bent the piece of metal without taking everything apart but I wanted to retrobright the case to restore some of the colour. I thought you might be right for a second but then I remembered that this game is boxed so I’ve just checked the photo on the box and there wasn’t a sticker. The glue residue would appear to be decades of sticky finger grime 🤮 However, I did noticed that the picture on the box does show a sticker underneath the gearstick which shows the gear positions - 1-4. Whereas on my game, the positions are moulded into the plastic and there isn’t actually space for the sticker. Clearly the case was redesigned very slightly at some point but the photo on the box wasn’t updated. Thanks for your comment, I would never have noticed that small difference otherwise 👍
