I reckon Galnet's just going through a bit of a dry spot (probably due to staffing). I also think some of it's due to event cadences, e.g. we'll see a new article each time a Titan goes boom
@GaveLJorgensson5 ай бұрын
I left my Oya-bashing staging point Inara (the system) to go grab a couple of Small Guardian Plasma Chargers for my off-meta Challenger build. I found two things: - Hardening a weapon against the Anti-Guardian Field is essentially engineering and may not be stackable upon pre-engineered modules. (Edit - confirmed. un-engineered only) - Applying this hardening to my small weapons required 2 Hardened Surface Fragments, 1 Caustic Crystal, and 1 Tactical Core Chip per weapon. Hardened Surface Fragments come from Coarse Hull Surface nodes on a Titan (shoot it with a thermal vent beam or something and grab with a collector limpet) Caustic Crystals rarely come from deep inside the Maelstrom clouds around active Titans Tactical Core Chips drop off the Revenants - smaller Thargoid ground combat vehicles (needs an SRV to scoop them up)
@caltheuntitled80215 ай бұрын
You can also get caustic crystals from salvaging around destroyed titans. They don’t have to be active.

I would genuinely be upset if Frontier replaced or supplemented writers with long-form autocomplete technology. Not only does it use horrendous amounts of power and water, which would significantly increase their financial load, but it would also put a lot of people out of jobs and directly violate one of the things that SAG-AFTRA/WGA fought against. I can only hope they keep their human touch and work on improving what's there, while employing people to participate in gameplay that isn't Thargoid-exclusive.

When I first started playing ED Galnet was dead. No articles at all. Took several weeks before it took off again. So this has happened before. Hopefully it'll start up again more regularly soon. Maybe Frontier should consider outsourcing this particular part of ED. There's loads of experienced players who I'm sure would love to write daily articles for the feed.

I always felt that a game like Elite Dangerous would benefit massively from AI. It be interesting to see what Frontier reveals in the future, if anything about their investment into generative AI.

Some what disappointingly the in game anti-guardian field breakthrough message simply refers to immunizing existing Guardian modules and does not specifically mention its for Guardian weapons only. The Galnet article is equally non-specific 😬

Nvidia has expressed concerns that they won't be able to get sufficient returns from AI, and the whole thing smacks of speculative tech bubble anyway (which isn't helped by the fact that most now-former cryptobros immediately jumped right over), so I wouldn't put too much stock in that.
@onasknox92845 ай бұрын
Great video as always, finally here for one live, as fun as it looks. On to the questions! No No Hopefully, it's either the AI route or someone is taking the lead on it. Be a shame for it to go dark, again, but something more immersive brought on by new technology would be a welcome change!

David Wailing a writer editor, who used to write the Galnet articles for 9 years ( as a contract worker) left the game at the end of February (I don't know if it was on his terms or he was put on the redundancy list, however redundancy layoffs were conducted in January as far as I know). I think on early Spring the last of the articles he worked on were released and the Galnet article release schedule has been getting rarer ever since. So I think if they are looking for a new writer, and if they find one, it must be a tremendous undertaking to get up to speed with all the accumulated narrative, and production bible. I mean 9 years of continuous narrative development with all its storylines is a gigantic story with so many characters.
@DavidKnowles05 ай бұрын
@@Profane_Pagan For years, Frontier needed a dedicated writer/Game master for Elite Dangerous, who sole job is to run the game. This role has often be split between game devs writing random galnet articles and the community team.

why has my carrier jump time gone up to 30 minutes FFS?

The new drives should either be made available in an A rating OR be engineerable. Not both. Trying to move a heavily armored Python around with a C drive and no FSD booster is painful as sin. Other than that, I'm quite happy with how they are now.

the sad thing is the new drive is basically a piece of crap. I thought this thing was designed for AX ships trying to get to the titans because a fair amount of the remaining titans are a significant way away from the primary star. Thats what it seemed like it was supposed to be for. But in a krait mk 2 that's kitted for AXI combat, and with limpets because you need them for the repair limpet launcher, the range is a paltry 9 LYs, which means going from my carrier to the titan system, that's practically right next door under normal circumstances, plotted me a 25 jump route, to go 18 light years. Like I said, a piece of crap.
