--- About this Channel ---------------------
Hi, I'm Petra and this channel is about bushcraft, survival, prepping and nature, everything that has to do with outdoor.
In 2018 I started with bushcraft, but there is still a lot to try and to learn.
So I invite you to learn with me, to support me and to help me.
I don't know where it takes me, but we'll see.

If you want to keep that terraced area where you were sitting [I would], you'll have to build a stone or wood retaining wall. If you can manage it, I would pick stone. Keep in mind the grading from high to low for water drainage. If you have never done a retaining wall, read up on it because there is an art to it. If you are going to do most of the work after winter, cover the areas you want to clear vegetation from with plastic. It will help it kill off most of the grass and it will be easier to clear in the spring. Fast growing shrubs, planted close together, just on the other side of the knoll, would help with the wind break. Think hedgerow. They don't have to get that tall, say 2-3 meters.

Thanks for watching and also for the useful tips. Yes, I will keep the patio area where I sat. The fire pit will probably get a little bigger and I want to raise it (then there won't be a problem with water). The retaining wall is created from the stones that are already there. I want to build a deadwood hedge to the side. It's good for nature, for animals, offers wind and privacy protection and doesn't cost anything. When planting I still have to think about which plants to use. A lot of work but I think it will be worth it. I don't have to build everything at once...

May I suggest Schip Cherry Laurel? I too have large deadwood hedges on my property. Rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels take advantage of them every year. Of course, that brings in weasels. Haven't seen any fox yet. @@Petragoesoutdoors

I will primarily use local wood and shrubs that also grow on the property. Thanks for your suggestion.

👍👍👍 .. Super! Good Evening Petra .. Congratulations on now being the Official Owned of a Rural Estate 🍾😊. Yes, you have much work ahead of you .. but .. one step at a time, taking each one with much forethought and not having to turn back and redo something. Ideas on your Fire Pit? There are so many and much will depend on your budget, design and materials that you want to use in the construction thereof. You Tube and the Internet can be a great source of Ideas. Perhaps something to consider in the short term, in the absence of trees and such, is the planting of some sturdy wooden poles / posts that can be used from which to install temporary overhead Tarps and side Wind Breaks as protection in times of bad weather. It does not take too much effort .. treated poles and concrete being relatively cheap and the installation / timber can always be used as a base to add onto or, recycled later for something else. One thing with the Fire Pit and supporting Infrastructure is to ensure good Drainage and Seasonal Conditions such as prevailingWinds and Rain. Not really any ideas .. sorry for that, but more 'food for thought' .. I hope that this 'useless information' 🙄 will be of some assistance 😏. We (sitting here in the 'Peanut Gallery' with our Popcorn 😁) are looking forward to accompanying you on your journey. Fair sailing going forward, with the wind at your back and until next time .. take care .. Tommy

Hello Tommy, thank you for your food for thought, they are also helpful. Yes, I need to make a plan so I don't have to start twice. I'm grateful for the idea with the wooden stakes for a tarp on the fire pit. I can still build a permanent shelter. Time and money are the factors that you have to come to terms with. So thank you very much for your valuable contribution. Have a nice week and take care, my dear friend. Petra

A below ground level Shelter is my suggestion. Much nicer in Hot Weather and you save ground space . Enjoying you channel from Australia🤔🦘Patrick.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your ideas. The first objective is to repair the fence and build a fire pit. I think a nice bushcraft shelter will have to wait until spring... Greetings to Australia, Petra
