The truce talks between Yugoslavia and Slovenia broke down. Serbia is now preparing for war as well. Serbian leader Slobodan Milošević says Serbia, the largest of the Yugoslavian Republics will fight to help Serbians inside these breakaway republics of Slovenia and Croatia where they are the minority population. Both breakaway republics are accused to committing crimes against the Serbian minorities in their republics.

I remember when the war started in Slovenia. I was 12 and the school holidays had just started. I was pissed, thinking: “Why didn’t they pick another time, they’re ruining my summer!” Thankfully in Slovenia the war ended very soon.

I was born in Slovenia in 1980. I was 11 years old at that time. Dad sent my brother and me to my grandparents' house in the countryside fearing air raids. I remember spending two days living in the basement of the community farm where my grandparents lived. Grandma made tea and we ate rye bread with lard to keep us fed. My brother Dusan went out with his armed friends to protect the region. In the end, there were no serious battles and we all came out okay in the end. It lasted two weeks. Then war ensued in Croatia and Bosnia. 🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮

This is very sad. The soul of tens of millions of people was shattered by a group of politicians you can count on your fingers. How can Bavaria, Prussia, Wittenberg etc. be united into one country, but not Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia etc.?
@nikolajovicic174
@nikolajovicic174 Жыл бұрын
Dang, you should read some history books before asking this silly q. Throughout the history of Kingdom of Yugoslavia and later Socialist Yugoslavia, the nationalism of each ethnic nation teamed with different religion (and there were quite a few of them under one roof) were constantly fighting for supremacy and undermining each other. The Bavaria and Wittenberg is a poor example as it has nothing to do with the situation in both of Yugoslavia.
@_0_restart_0_
@_0_restart_0_ Жыл бұрын
@@nikolajovicic174 the situation with Prussia and Bavaria is similar. One was catholic and the other one was protestant. They didn't want to unite because of religious reasons, but it still worked out and that's how we've got modern day Germany. Granted, the Bavarian nobility was very angry at the Prussian dominance of Germany, but now the German people are under one flag. Same can't be said for Yugoslavia.

Different languages, religions and cultures. The reason Yugoslavia was unified was to stand strong against any potential external invasions.
