News18 India Chaupal: Kangana Ranaut Confirms Selling Her Bungalow Because of Emergency Delay Losses

Kangana Ranaut attended the News18 India Chaupal event on Monday in New Delhi when she confirmed selling her Pali Hill (Bandra, Mumbai) bungalow. The actress revealed that she had to take the decision because of losses incurred due to the delay in the release of her movie, Emergency.
“Naturally, my film was supposed to be released. I put all my personal property on it. Now that it’s not released, so anyway, that’s what properties are for - for times of crisis,” Kangana said.
Earlier this month, a report by Zapkey revealed the actress sold her controversial property for Rs 32 crore. Kangana had reportedly purchased the property for Rs 20.7 crore in September 2017. She also took out a Rs 27 crore loan from ICICI Bank against the property in December 2022. The bungalow was used as the office for her production house, Manikarnika Films.
This was the same property that came under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) scanner in 2020. In September 2020, the BMC had demolished parts of Kangana’s office in Bandra citing illegal construction. The demolition work was stopped midway after a stay order from Bombay High Court on September 9. Kangana filed a case against BMC and even demanded Rs 2 crores for compensation from BMC but dropped her demands in May 2023.
Meanwhile, talking about Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, the film was supposed to hit theatres on September 6. However, it was postponed due to pending approval from the censor board. The film has also been facing boycotts and ban calls. Several Sikh organisations have accused the film of presenting the community in the wrong light.
At the event, Kangana also talked about the delay in the Emergency release and said, “It is our history which has been intentionally hidden. We are not told about this. Bhale logo ka zamaana nahi hai.”
“My film is ready to be released. It has received certification from the censor board. 4 historians supervised our films. We have the proper documents. There is nothing wrong with my film. But some people call Bhindranwale a saint, revolutionary or a leader. They threatened via pleas (to ban her film). I have also received threats. Previous governments have declared Khalistanis as terrorists. He was not a saint who was sitting in a temple with an AK47,” the actress added.

कंगना रनौत ने कहा कि आज खलनायक नायक बन गया है. भिंडरावाले अगर आतंकी है तो मेरी फिल्म जरूर रिलीज होनी चाहिए. कंगना ने कहा कि ओटीटी पर रेग्युलेशन की जरूरत है… हमने संसद में आवाज भी उठाई है. कंगना ने कहा कि मेरी फिल्म को किसी ने सपोर्ट नहीं किया. कंगना रनौत ने कांग्रेस के नेता राहुल गांधी पर भी जोरदार तंज कसा. उन्होंने कहा कि राहुल गांधी ने विदेश में जो बयान दिया है, उसे देश की नजरों मे गिर जाना कहते हैं. कंगना ने कहा कि केंद्रीय मंत्री रवनीत सिंह बिट्टू ने जो कहा, वो मैं पहले से कह रही हूं.

कंगना रनौत ने कहा कि गांधी परिवार ने देश का नुकसान किया है. कांग्रेस को राहुल गांधी से बेहतर नेता की जरूरत है. कंगना ने सवाल किया कि राहुल गांधी भिंडरावाले को आतंकी मानते हैं या नहीं? उन्होंने कहा कि विदेश में राहुल गांधी किस तरह के बयान दे रहे हैं. राहुल को अब बड़े हो जाना चाहिए. राहुल बेसिर-पैर की बात करते हैं. कंगना ने कहा कि राहुल गांधी फ़ुल कॉमेडी शो लगते हैं.
