Days after 121 people were killed due to a stampede at a religious gathering in Hathras, the lawyer representing Bhole Baba, the preacher claimed that the mishap occurred as a group of around 15-16 people sprayed poison during the event. He further claimed that these people soon fled the venue after triggering the cause for the stampede.
The people who were killed in the stampede were mostly women and also included children. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the tragedy and both the state and central government announced ex-gratia for the families of the victims as well as for the injured.
Four out of the six terrorists killed in twin encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district were living in a bunker concealed inside a cupboard in Chinigam Frisal area. The involvement of local residents in sheltering them is also suspected and being investigated, officials said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Moscow on Monday for an “official visit,” during which he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the Kremlin describing the relations between the two nations as “traditionally friendly.”
PM Modi’s visit comes at the invitation of President Putin for the 22nd India-Russia summit, scheduled for July 8 and 9.
This visit marks PM Modi’s first visit to Russia in nearly five years and notably his first since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. His last visit was in 2019 when he attended an economic conclave in Vladivostok, a city in Russia’s Far East.
Mumbai has been witnessing continuous rainfall over the past few days. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy downpours are expected to continue for the next 2-3 days.
Local train services in Mumbai were suspended on several routes following the waterlogging triggered by the heavy rainfall. Several areas of the city have submerged in water after the hefty downpours.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert in Maharashtra’s Pune, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Amravati and Nagpur districts.
