The King's Academy, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence with a Top-5 Nationally-Ranked Fine Arts Program, recently performed the high school premiere of "Newsies" on its main stage in the Page Family Center for Performing Arts. Starring senior Kyle Martin (Jack Kelly), senior Chris Pappas (Crutchie), senior Clay Hider (Davey), and sophomore Olivia Cornett (Katherine Plumber), this musical is said to be one of TKA Theatre Co.'s best.
TKA’s Conservatory of the Arts, a two-time American High School Theatre Festival award-winning fine arts program, is led by Mr. David Snyder (Artistic Director, Musical Theater, Department Chair), Mr. Nathan Adams (Vocal Arts), Mrs. Cathy Higgins (Dance- Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz), Mr. Douglas Gawriljuk (Dance- Ballet and Modern), Miss Sarah Fahey (Theatre Arts), Mr. Brad Majzner (Stagecraft), Mr. David Skinner (Instrumental Director), Mr. Wes Lowe (Assistant Band Director), Mr. Patrick Clifford (Strings), Mrs. Macey Norton (Video/Digital Arts), Mrs. Lauren Moxey (Visual Art), Mrs. Stephanie Grasso (Elementary Choir, Woodwinds), and Mrs. Robin Phillips (Piano).

Chris played Crutchie perfectly. His voice, acting and personality were exceptional for this part, Broadway quality! His innocence and underlaying cuteness and humor in this song sold the performance for me! I just wish I could have seen the show in person. Newsies is a great show and this cast did the show proud! Bravo to the entire cast! Thanks TKA for doing this show for the seniors!

I only found this channel recently, but Chris Pappas is an AMAZING actor! I first found him in Beauty and the Beast. His voice and acting skills are soooooo good. I felt all the emotion in this song.

Exactly! AKB is exceptional, no doubt about that, but Chris just adds so much emotion to the song. Andrew’s go at the song was pretty monotone, while I know he was trying to act more sad, lonely, lost, and depressed, I just think Chris’s singing is just way more optimistic- basically how Crutchie should act, even when locked up.

What? Why? If anything it's the choice to use vibrato on the onset and offset of his sound. Since he has a wider vibrato, it makes it feel a little wobbly on the more "speaky" part of the song. But his belting and sustained notes are placed well and clean.
