Close to nearly 100 days of unrest in Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on the issue for nearly 10 minutes in a more-than-two-hour speech in Parliament on Thursday. The PM assured the people of Manipur “that there will be peace” and the state will soon return to the path of development.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah appealed to Kukis and Meiteis to come to the table to help the centre solve the crisis. He also expressed support for Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh, who has been under fire over his government’s role in the conflict.
The speeches came as part of the debate on the opposition-sponsored no-confidence motion, which was defeated amid the BJP’s overwhelming majority in Parliament.

Why and how central has not been doing nothing in Manipur, despite the people had been suffering: killing, tortured, displace, burning hoyses andchurches. Thousands of people are still in camp without proper fooding, their houses have been burnt. So many people are crying with great suffering. Central rulling party has very good acccomodation, luxuries houses, testiful fooding and they have slept under good clotths, Bluncket, Rizai etc. Why till now, they have not been responded dreaful people of Manipur. A woman said that she thinks that Prime Minister Mr Modi loves the people of Manipur. Does he ? If he did he would have visited Manipur, he would have spoken about the situation in Manipur. By his silence he has shown the world that he & government are complicit. In parliament he only spoke about Manipur for just over 2 Manipur. Just because the Supreme Court spoke that if the government does not take action then the Supreme court will that is when the Prime Minister spoke a few words. I visited Manipur last April 23 with our family. We are treated will and had dinner with a Meity family and the next day lunch with a Kuki family. We visited Lokdam lake which is memorable. We have videos. The state is scenic beautiful and the people are lovable. But from May 3rd onwards my heary weep for Manipur. Let the peace and cordial relationship prevail by electing the right persons.
