Trinamool Congress leader and former Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra has remained in the news - at times for her fiery remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and more recently over the cash-for-query allegations that led to her expulsion from Lok Sabha and the public spat between her and her “former partner”.
Moitra is in the fray again from Krishnanagar, one of the eight seats in West Bengal to vote on May 13.
In this episode of Another Election Show, we traced Moitra’s campaign trail in Krishnanagar’s Kaliganj. At her public meeting in the area, which was also attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, the latter linked the Sandeshkhali incident with “Bengali identity” and attacked Modi.
The TMC leader also took out a road show which passed through several villages. Speaking to Newslaundry, Moitra said the elections are a “fight for survival” and she is confident of victory. She also alleged that Sandeshkhali is a “fake narrative by the BJP”.

While in many other states the INDIA alliance is doing well, in Bengal, TMC is as bad as BJP and more importantly at the present they are not part of the alliance no matter what they keep blabbering. The two parties (BJP and TMC) are exactly same (and it is not a conspiracy theory, ask any educated normal human being in Bengal without a political agenda), they change their statements whenever they feel like and change parties like dresses. Mamata Banerjee is the most corrupted chief Minister Bengal has ever had and TMC is probably the most corrupt party in India not having any ideology at all. The true face of INDIA alliance in Bengal, if it actually ideologically has to stand against the wrongdoings of Modi and BJP throughout the country, is the Left-Congress alliance in Bengal. No matter how much road they make this time, this binary of TMC and BJP should not be promoted atleast by independent media outlets like NL.

@@attudapatus Lesser is a comparative word itself and in West Bengal, this comparative word does not apply when you are comparing these two indistinguishably corrupt parties. The lesser evil theory has had enough of it during 2021, the binary has to be broken. If one has to have the belief that ordinary people will realise the propaganda politics of BJP through out the country, then I would say Bengal is yet to have that realisation even if they select TMC. Just being against BJP doesn't make sense if the modus operandi of TMC is same as BJP. The binary needs to be broken and Left-Congress alliance needs to win atleast 4-5 seats this time around. Otherwise, atleast locally in Bengal, the corruption and growth of BJP will persist for a long long time. This binary as well as the lesser evil theory is what has pushed Bengal to not asking the right questions and helped BJP grow in Bengal. Everything in daily life is not just about binary choices, in most of the practical situations, there is a third choice, which has to be realised as the better one.

@@attudapatus I think this time around the narrative has been changed a little which of course mainstream media is not covering. That is why I expect a bit more from NL. The alliance between left and Congress has been from the bottom the heart of the supporters this time. So, the vote share is expected to be properly shared this time. Also, rural people tend to believe them a bit more. And I truly believe that any change, be it in India or in a particular state is actually controlled more by rural people. Urban people are just the face of it. Also urban people are usually more selfishly driven. Most of the political battle of existence is fought in rural areas. We will know more and get a better idea when the results are out. But just hoping for a sign of good change.

Mahua Moitra is a very strong and able candidate, more strength for her ambition to win and work for the people of her constituency. But didn't quite find her answer to the corruption question asked by NL journalist Atul quite convincing. If the ruling party at the centre is claimed to be corrupt then why would people vote for the opposition if their alliance-parties are also saddled with the same problem of corruption. Corruption is endemic to and deep-rooted in Indian politics, sad but true, and therefore whataboutery by any member of any party will not help. To make the country worth living one must acknowledge the problems first, diagnose the cause of them, and strive to combat and control them, instead of engaging in mutual allegations. India's rank in the transparency index is already dismal, so our hope lies with the next generation of educated and sensible leaders Ms Moitra who have been competent enough to have had the experience and exposure of working in countries with developed social and political institutions and expectedly aware of the kind of discussions that happens at the international level around these issues. Hope this is not taken as a criticism but as an ardent appeal of an ordinary voter of this strong country.

FYI, it's a three-cornered election in Bengal this time. It's highly expected for an independent channel like NL to cover the third party, i.e., the left-Congress alliance (SDA), which has an alliance with INDIA on national level and slowly gaining traction on ground, kindly do not subjugate their impact as mainstream media is doing.
