This week, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kirpal, Manisha Pande and Anand Vardhan discuss the controversy around Netflix’s new show IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency, and subscriber letters.

On the postponed release of Emergency, Raman says the BJP would have pushed it “if it was politically expedient”. Abhinandan adds, “Well, her profile does have a picture of her as Indira Gandhi - and that’s a BJP MP!”
The panel also discusses the portrayal of hijackers in IC 814 and the outrage about them being shown as Hindus. On the characterisation of journalists in the show, Manisha says, “The newsroom they show is pathetic. It is a caricature.”

I think Manipur should be reported more deeply. A complete picture is missing as we read bits and pieces. One thing that I have seen closely from Naxalite movements states one sidedness fuels violence for decades. As Myanmar rebellion grows it will cause more chaos here.

The movie 💩 s on Sikhs and no matter how hard kangna tried Indira comes off as an authoritative figure which is the same brand BJP built for PM Modi but modi doesn't have 'broken Pakistan into pieces' in his portfolio so Modi comes off weaker than Indira. That's bad for Haryana elections a state which encircles Delhi on three sides. Losing Haryana would mean giving AAP govt. a chance to Push policies with the help of Haryana government which bjp has kept choked till now. The movie will be released after the Haryana elections.
