I cannot understand how squatters have any rights at all. 😢
@SacredOwlКүн бұрын
They only allow the court ti decide, when the sheriff can determine if the people just illegally entered, just like they do any other crime. If the people dont have mail or a renters agreement, they are squatting and should be arrested, but they dont do it that way anywhere I know of. Lots if squatting here in California. I saw some news showing squatters making fake rental agreements, like it even matters.

We just went thru this. My sons mother passed in July. He inherited the house. The day after she passed we went to the house only to find one of her ex boyfriends was sleeping in the basement. We called the cops. The guy told the cops he had permission to stay there and they said they couldn't kick him out. This happened on July 18th, 2024, we JUST got him out less than two weeks ago. It took months and over $6,000 in legal fees. He trashed the house. Bashed up the walls, ripped copper pipes out, cut wires... we are forced to sell the house now. My son is 20. I was going to fix it up for him, but that's no longer a possibility. This is a huge problem. I can't understand why in the hell this is allowed or who in the hell allowed it, but homeowners are getting stuck, and the courts and the cops and everyone knows it's bs. GA passed the Squatter Reform Act, House bill 1017, this year. The bill states “Offenders will receive a citation requiring them to provide authorization of consent within three days. Failure to do so will result in arrest for criminal trespass. If documentation is provided, a hearing will be heard in Magistrate Court within seven days to determine if the documents have merit. False swearing and the submission of improper or fraudulent documentation will lead to felony arrest, removal and the squatter will be subject to additional fines to cover damages, back rent based on the property’s fair market value and up to a year in jail.” I know she said the judge isn’t following the law, so she should contact her reps and the state’s AG. She muddied the waters by trying to do this without the police. While I understand her frustration, because I would be infuriated, she has to follow the law, even if the trespasser doesn’t. Also, voting these judges out would be a great idea. News Nation should have acted like a real news organization and contacted the judge for comment. Also, you should have recited the law for the viewers because they don’t know there is a judicial process for removing squatters.

Police take for granted that a resident is entitled to occupy where he lives. If a landlord wants to get rid of an unwanted tenant, it usually takes 3 months. If governments want to help landlords get rid of "squatters" it will have to clarify the trespass laws to properly distinguish a squatter from a tenant that stopped paying rent. If governments decide it's OK to screw over the owners don't get upset when there is a shortage of "affordable" rentals.

This is an example of the government's lack of intervention to help the homeless but attempting to appear compassionate by forcing citizens to subsidize them.

You're supposed to have a professional occupier come get a lease from you. This is legit. And then the professional occupiers weights until the squatter leaves to go get some crack or some grape Kool-Aid. Then professional occupier has the locks changed legally with the lease in hand, and when the squatter comes back. They are SOL. The squatters can call the cops. The professional occupier calls the owner. They meet with the cops and says that the professional occupier has a legitimate lease to be here and then the squatters are escorted off property and charge with trespassing, breaking and entering.

This is something that should be at the top of the list of all lawmakers.. these laws need to be changed immediately. There is no reason a squatter has more rights than you do. Absolutely no reason it’s your private property. You have the right. This is outrageous.

They really need to change that law

Why do we have leases that are signed if anyone can move in any where any time they want? Time to get a high power lawyer.

If you have a squatter replace the windows in the winter and tell them it’s gonna take months to fix it! Let them enjoy a cold winter without windows. They will move on! 😂

This country needs to fix this plague of squatters and giving them more rights than the home owners. US is going down the tube by allowing things like this to happen

Squatter? What squatter?... No body here but me and my family. Nothing to see here. So glad I live in the woods.

😆 That missing homeless person probably overdosed somewhere in the woods. Or took a bus to California. Best of luck to them!
