Mike, one additional point; mom's and dad's always want their kids to do better then them. Up to now, one could say the trades require a good bit of physical work. The technology now used in the trades has really made an impact on safety, productivity and technician satisfaction. It helps with having fun on the job, which is really all anyone can ask for!

The tides are changing now thanks to people like Mike Rowe. 30 yr Hvac tech absolutely love it, biggest issue now at least in Massachusetts is that our local vocational school have 300 spots open every year and over 700 kids apply we need desperately to expand these schools for all the kids who wish to go.

Trade schools can be a great option for learning practical skills. They often offer hands-on training and can lead to rewarding careers. Great video 😁 30:06 was speaking straight factual information.

I am not a fan of Chris like I used to be. But I did enjoy this show and showcasing trades for young people and those looking for a career change. I truly appreciate paying people to do tasks I need at home that I can't do!!! Mike Rowe a good dude in this aspect indeed to me!!

Aprentice programs are usually regulated by the State meaning the prospective apprentice has to attend required classes at the community college etc. to suppliment his on the job training. Plumbers & electricians have to be licensed by the State. (Their work is hidden behind walls.)

Not that complicated. I started in 1972, I was in Junior College, needed money (for gas and car). Saw a job posting (on an index card, no less) for a computer operations trainee, no experience necessary. The job turned out to be mostly moving 150lb barrels of used computer printout to the basement. That eventually turned into a long and extremely successful and impactful career in the tech business. Before I landed on that, I could not find a job as a busboy or dishwasher. I happened to be in Silicon Valley at the time and tech was the kind of job that was plentiful. Before you say, but you are so lucky, not really. I have long since retired and live in a rural community in the SW for the past 20 years. I worked with the local telephone company some and it turned out their manager of network operations started there decades ago when he was a teenager. He always joked about he held the record for the longest summer job (going on 50 years). The company was looking for somebody that can climb telephone poles. Oppurtunites like that are literally everywhere.

I enjoyed the show. I support the idea of bringing attention to trade jobs but tell me something. At 40:30 why does the radiator shop owner have his 2 day trained daughter brazing radiators without any eye protection? That's a basic violation of safety. The molten metal could pop and hit her face or eyes. Her vision could be permanently disabled. It makes me question the validity of the show. Was that radiator shop real? Anyone with that much experience would know better especially since it was his own daughter. Not even to mention lighting the torch with a bic lighter instead of a striker.

Thanks for bringing the safety aspect to light, I've watched many TV/ internet shows on trades and i see people cutting grinding etc. with no PPE, once you lose your vision it doesn't come back.

Well we have to fix the financial end in the work field. Because at the rate we work you don't make enough to survive. And then if you become disabled they provide enough for you to fall in debt. Inflation has a lot to do with it as well
