It was probably water. You have to keep the pot and your fuel free of any water. The same as you would not put water on a grease fire. very bad.

These things don't just explode. i can almost guarantee they were trying to fill it back up because it was running low while it was actively burning and the oils they added had water in it. never refill these when they are hot.

Either someone threw gasoline in there and tried to light it, or they had it filled and lit correctly but tried to put it out with water. Stay in school kids!
