Newsreel films clips of functions at the Shah Jahan Mosque, Woking, England, between 1918 and 1958

During the years (1913-1968) that the Woking Muslim Mission operated at the Shah Jahan Mosque, Woking, Surrey, England, newsreel film companies filmed several events at the Mosque. Notable among them was the famous British Pathe.
Here we present a number of such clips as one video presentation.
These clips have been published individually by the archives of the newsreel companies on KZbin and elsewhere, but they carry very little information about the events shown.
In this presentation we have added contextual information, giving the precise dates of the events, their nature and significance, and names of the prominent persons seen in the clips.

Abdul Majid (7 July 1896 - 1 March 1977) - Former editor of Islamic Review and founder of the oldest surviving mosque in Germany. Imam in this video is Maulana Abdul Majid (1896-1977) based in London. He will be remembered in the English speaking world as a leading spokesman of Islam. For 20 years he was the Imam at the Shah Jehan Mosque, Woking, Surrey. This Mosque which was built in 1889, Maulana Abdul Majid joined the mission in 1926 and was also appointed Editor of the Islamic Review, which for a long time was the only journal in the English language on Islamic topics circulating throughout the world. Abdul Majid was a person of profound learning and compendious knowledge of literature and languages (with university degrees from Germany and India, where he was born). His many friends will remember him as a man of abundant humanity and charity and as a gentle, self-effacing and tireless worker for his fellows, of all religions.
