Ask the last generation of young people who have had to emigrate to have any real chance of a life. My sons and many of their freinds are now in Canada, with no realistic opportunity to return to this country. Housing, health services, infrastructure, job opportunities, even in teaching. I watch this as a 27 year old emigrant of Bray to Germany - in my room in Berlin for which I pay 380 warm. I work in the financial sector, and make 30% more here than I did in Ireland for what is effectively the same work (if not somewhat of a demotion). The higher taxation here in Germany bring that’s down to around a net equivalence to what I made in Ireland - however I can live far more comfortably here on that wage than I could ever dream of in Ireland. Myself, my twin brother, and 8 or so close school friends have all made the move here for similar reasons. I graduated in the 2020 covid class (International Business and Italian), 7 of the 8 from my graduating class live abroad 4 years after the fact. Ireland has become completely unliveable for a vast swathe of the younger population and unless there is drastic change in Irelands cost of living (spurred by the exorbitant cost of housing), we will all continue to live abroad and contribute our skills elsewhere.
