He was basically paying the band, paying tour production and workers, all travel expenses, hotels ,merch and everything out of his own pocket. That included recording and pressing of albums. I believe he said he spent over 3 million of his own money just for the 1 album and short world tour he did. Didn't even break even. If he had a major label backing and even 25% of backing that Metallica had he would still be doing it. I believe the album only sold like less than 100k copies. I don't blame him.

I really hope Jason sets up a Newstead KZbin channel and gets this and future albums onto streaming sites. I get that touring is expensive, but it should be easier for people to find the music so that the fanbase can grow over time. Metallica are so bad now that many people are crying out for an alternative which this music nicely fills and I expect it will also get better over time as the band matures and evolves.
