All the stations have long platforms and the length was increased long time back in seventies. New changes include mechanical cleaning of railway stations and tracks, mechanical washing of trains, upgrading of railway stations, electrification of tracks, anti collision systems and scada based control systems for safe and efficient operation etc. All level crossing have been removed and fly over or under pass built.

Stations in India are long because train carries 22-26 coaches. Aapko stations itne pasand aaiye, in mumbai we have more than 100 stations.

Indian Railways mein jo ye laal dabbe wale trains hain, unki lambai 24.7 meters hai, per coach. Isiliye ek 20 coaches wali train PLUS engine mila ke 500 meters (yaani, aadhe Kilometer se bhi zyada) hota hai.....that's why the platforms of all the major stations are very long. Ek typical major station mein platform ki lambai araam se 550 meter tak jaati hai. Most other stations are long enough (around 280 meters) to fit our local (EMU) trains, which are 12 coaches long and 22.28 meters each.

Most of the stations are already upgraded with modern facilities. India is still allocating a lot of funds in every budget for upgrading or on new railway infrastructure. There may be a few which are yet to be upgraded but the Government is on job on all developments. As far as Government employees attitude is concerned, we face these problems in India also.

Your question is valid whether these stations were smaller during partition. I do not have much knowledge about older times. But since 1994, when I was born, Indian loop line length has been 650 meters on all stations. Whether it's a small rural station or the large junction, length of platform will always be 650 meters. All the passenger and goods trains are smaller than 650 meters for this reason.

Platforms have always been longest since beginning in india to support minimum 22 and maximum 24 coach train. Renovation is done in terms of maintenance and prosthetics like lighting and surface. Earlier Kharagpur had longest railway platform in the world and now that record has been broken by Gorakhpur to support halts of 2 trains on one single platform. Earlier indian trains had 18 coach trains and with increase in number of coaches, platform length was also increased.

All stations, platforms and tracks are being updated and upgraded even small stations are having it's length too long.... all the tracks are being electrified. look the lighting on platforms...also stations are having rest rooms with Wi-Fi & clean washrooms with AC, servers are upgraded, even now we can get the general ticket from mobile.. reservation of tickets from mobile is on one click. Seats availability and alternate trains are improved... Train GPS system is awesome. We can track any train on mobile...I proud on my Railways..

Most of the Indian railway stations are modified suitably for 25-Coaches. but can take more coaches as all ICF coaches (Length 22.28-m) are being replaced by LBH coaches (Length 24.78-m) so all these new LBH coaches need to be accommodated. Just increasing the length of platform and number of coaches is not enough. The hauling capacity power (HP) of locomotive also need to be increased accordingly.

In India all train stations where long route express strains have stop have big platforms. Basically these stations were very small around 30 years back, but since all express trains have around 20-21 coaches, all stations are now upgraded. Nowadays you will find all stations very clean compare to past All major routes are electrified now and WAP series electric locomotives are extremely powerful.

Stations have been upgraded CONSTANTLY starting in the late 1980S.. Most of it was due to the initiative of the State Governments. I visited Telangana State in the early 1990s and in 2000s... World of difference! ( Jaise bolte hai na? Zameen aur Aasmaan ka farq?) So, it was a gradual, evolving and a VERY determined process that you see here. But we still have a Long way to go.... Iman pahle yaha ke bhi aise hi honge....Bahut se stations ki building aaj bhi britishers ke time ki hi hai..Jaise aapke yaha ke kuch stations ki hai. Indian railways ne apne aapko bahut upgrade kiya hai. 2021-22 ke liye indian railways ne 1.10 lakh crore ka budget rakha hai. Aapke yaha ke best station se bhi 100 times better hoga new delhi station lekin ab usko bhi 5000 crore ke budget se upgrade kiya ja rha hai...Upgrade hone ke baad wo under one roof hoga or fully solar power operational hoga.

The last ICF coach in India was flagged off on 19 January 2018. The Indian Railways intends to phase out ICF coaches and replace all of them with the newer LHB coaches and Train 18 or Train 20 coaches over a period of time, once the codal life of the existing ICF coaches end. The codal life of conventional type of Integral Coach Factory( ICF) design coaches is 25 years and Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) design Stainless Steel coaches are 35 years. So theoretically last ICF coach in India will retire by 2042
