Great video and great job by the firemen. The problem with those old factory building is the floors and all the supports in those buildings is hard wood that has been drying for at least a hundred years. Then the floors are saturated with oil from the machinery that worked there for decades. Once one of those old buildings starts to burn your not going to stop it until every bit of wood has burned.
@mohammednadeemanwar22133 жыл бұрын
I agree. Mill (textile factory) fires in Yorkshire and Lancashire. Oil soaked floors burn through to point, of total destruction of the building. Also noticed bricked up windows, that's also common in UK.

This one makes me think about an old factory building next town over from me and it’s a small town here in nh my buddy used to work there before it shut down he said the interior construction is 2x6 on edge al laminated together for floors and they are so soaked with oils and such being and old woolen mill and they lease out some parts of it for other stuff like an auto repair shop. but most of it sits vacant if that ever got started on fire my buddy said it would be almost impossible to put it out would have to try to contain it and let it burn out or tear it down to put it out
@froey1980334 жыл бұрын
So you're from N.H. I'm down the road in Fall River,Massachusetts. I've seen a few of these mills burn to the ground. There's been a bunch of mills that have caught fire over the years. At.least 8 to 10 have caught fire and burned down. You're right the floors are soaked with oils from the machinery. I watched one in 2000 burn for over 24 hours. There was nothing the fire fighters could do so they just let it burn itself out. They just watched it to make sure nothing else caught fire but all that was there is a huge parking lot so nothing else could catch fire. It was wild to say the least.

Listen about 1 minute in. They are going to put an aerial ladder behind the fenced area. He says wait till he gets the power lines down, which I assume is turned off. Then listen at 2:50 to a little over 3 minutes. You can see the one FF telling the other FF to cut down the fence. He doesn't want the ladder that to close to the building encase the wall falls.

AFD only had 1 aerial in service since manning had dropped the second aerial was OOS for a number of years. No criticism because what else are you going to do but probably just best to let this fire rip through the floors and go through the roof. Take your time setting up your tower ladders cuz you're going to be there all night surrounding and drowning anyway. Ain't no way in the world you're putting out that fire with two and a halfs from the street, not going to happen. Now I understand why the old timers would slow everyone down when they went defensive just let the thing get cooking blow through the roof do its collapsing whatever it's going to do and then just start drowning it. The reason they did that, because it's going to happen anyway. It can happen quick or you can delay it by pouring water on it for no reason.

No way does that smoke not have asbestos in it...
@retiredarthritic20835 жыл бұрын
The Greek Asbestos has been getting removed from all structures for safe disposal. It may or not be present in this fire however that is not the only carcinogen or toxins that are in smoke from all fires. Phosgene is a gas found in fire smoke and it is very deadly starting in concentrations as little as 3 PPM. Hydrogen Sulfide H2S can be deadly at 100 PPM. The particulates in fire smoke can cause lung diseases like Emphysema, C.O.P.D., chronic bronchial Asthma and cancer of the lungs and any other primary site Cancer. That is why fire fighters are required to be on air prior to entering the hot zone. This is true also for fire fighters in the warm zone for extended periods of time. The cold zone is for rehabbing crews and support units and these do not require the use of S.C.B.A.
