So the Johnston Protocol which was part of the Brexit negotiated and signed for between UK and EU. The oven ready deal, supported by the DUP, but not the majority of NI. So there are issues with the protocol, any suggestions how they can be adjusted to make acceptable ? The unique economic access to both the UK and EU is the best possible reason people would vote for the status quo within the UK. If rejected it almost inevitable will result in a united Ireland in the medium term. Or what do other people think?

The people who voted for brexit certainly did not vote for the protocol and the DUP did not support it either. The only reason why the protocol exists is that the Dublin government warned if there was a border placed on the island of Ireland (where it belongs) there could be republican violence. The British governments response should have been to place the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic without any checkpoint infrastructure and as the Republic is an EU member let them deal with any checking of goods. I agree on your point of having a foot in two markerts is a unique position, if it works financially it will make Northern Ireland a very attractive place for business, this of course would upset Sinn Fein IRA very much as they wish for Northern Ireland to fail. Only time will tell.....

@@trueblueulster Disagree with your contention that the economic border should be on the island of Ireland. Most people of NI did not support Brexit and Ireland did not vote for the UK to leave the EU (where people could be what ever they wanted British or Irish or NI and other). In fact Ireland and the UK worked very well together within the EU in drafting legislation and on tax policy (and why not as closest neighbour). Some of these laws are now affecting the UK as a 3rd country. Agree that there are issues to be sorted out within the EU and possible with the associated Johnston Protocol (which he lied to unionists to get support, as his only audience is English nationalism who do not want NI and are livid about the 2 billion deal the DUP got for support). But what amendments to the Protocol do you suggest? I am from Ireland, have worked and studied in UK for years (a lot of family still living in UK), with many friends from both sections of NI that have came and stayed with me, but insist that when I visit their homes in NI we cannot go drinking together in public as pubs I would be welcome in they would not and vice a versa. But when we lived together in UK we were consider by all the English as Paddy's (50% loved us and 50% hated us, but we understood each other and socialised together). As regards the unionists parades, I watch them to try and understand your culture (as I have friends from both sections of NI), it appears to be triompuliasm and jingoism but if I take a step back and watch most supporters appear to be family and community events. Similar to cultural parades and if that is what they are I will try and support them.

@@trueblueulster PS the inspections of goods by tg he UK at the customs border was insisted too by the UK as they want full control and thug e EU reluctantly agreed to this. And I hope you have a glorious 12th!

@@trueblueulster the border does not belong on Ireland. It was put there by the British under threat of violence, against the wishes of the vast majority of the people on this island. It won’t be coming back. Time is running out for a people that nobody wants!

I’m watching closely everyday from England. I donated £50 to the court case to scrap the NIP. As a UK citizen I can no longer take my dog to another part of the UK without EU checks. This is unacceptable. Long live the UK 🇬🇧
