This short film has been commissioned by Newtownforbes Tidy Towns with funding from the Local Authority Water Programme Community Water Development Fund 2021 and with the support of Longford County Council.
The aim of this film is to create awareness for the rich and diverse biodiversity in our area. The film also aims to promote our connection as a community to local waterways such as Lough Forbes, the River Camlin and Ballykenny Bog. While these waterways may not be entirely visible or accessible to our local community they do play an important role in all our lives locally by supplying water to many of the houses in Newtownforbes and indeed the wider Longford area. Ballykenny Bog is a listed Special Area of Conservation and protected under EU Law for its rich and uniquely unspoilt peatland. As a community we have a role to play to protect these waterways and the many smaller rivers and drains that flow into them. We encourage all members of our community to get out, get active and take a closer look at the nature that surrounds us.
The film is wonderfully narrated by the 6th Class of 2021-2022 School Mhuire Newtownforbes who through their own research and field work created the words to go with the shots. The film was recorded and produced by SL Media Longford.
