I am a cat trapper in New Orleans. I trap 25 cats per week and get them spayed or neutered so they don't have babies... They survive here because it is warm but they must be neutered.... it is the law here. It actually helps control rodent population and decreases animal shelter intake and resulting euthanasia. Shelter intake has drastically decreased in areas where Trap Neuter Release occues... I am a volunteer... I do this because I love cats and all animals. If you want to help cats, don't just feed... trap and neuter them... it saves lives.

I have a suggestion for the trappers . . . put the cover over the trap BEFORE you leave it open to trap a cat. That way they are already in hiding when you walk up to the trap. You're unecessarily frightening them by leaving the cover off until after they've tripped the trap. . . . That's how I've done it, and it worked fine for me.

Feral means wild. If they were friendly when they came, they were stray, sure, but not feral. And yes, feral cats can be tamed, and then they won't be feral anymore. Is there any reason to have wild birds and mammals in the city anyway? Surely no mammals live exclusively in the big city, and wouldnt it be smart to scare them away so the humans dont kill them? We outnumber cats 10 to 1. An estimated 900 million birds die by flying into windows every year, at least the birds can see the cats.
