I like Newhart so much - loved both his famous shows and yes his commitment to his wife and family was so admirable. I did think his friendship with Rickles was confusing until you see the love they have for one an other. He's 94 now and I am so pleased he has lived a wonderful life - so deserved.

I'm in England. We never had Don's shows here, or the roasts, but he did appear on TV on the very odd occasions. Bob's series was shown here, and I never missed an episode. When the internet happened he was one of the first Comedians I looked for. Incredibly clever and funny.

Two great comedians, two very different styles. Newhart was a class act. Rickles was a wonderful insult comedian, and celebs would feel insulted if he DID NOT go after them. He made us laugh at ourselves. We need another Rickles again, we’ve forgotten how to laugh.

It's nice to see friendship celebrated. There are so many films, long and short, about romantic love, that by comparison, friendship, which is also a very important kind of love, often seems to be overlooked. How refreshing to pull up their Wikipedia write-ups and see that they read like very functional families. Not a listing of numerous marriages and scandals that most celebrities leave in their wake. Mad respect for those who were able to avoid the pitfalls of Hollywood. In the 70s, my husband and I were having dinner on Rodeo Drive at one of our favorite restaurants. We were accustomed to celebrity sightings there, but one night the Newharts and the Rickles came in. I desperately hoped I'd be on the receiving end of a Don Rickles insult, but no such luck. But we got to see their friendship in action, so all the things talked about in this video not unexpected.

I think Bob's wife has passed away now, since this was made. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) I've known about Don and Bob's friendship for quite a while and have watched interviews of them together.
