Motherhood Through the Years

We asked six moms about what motherhood is like at a month, six months, a year, five years, 15 years, and 30 years. Does the mother of a 30-year-old feel like she knows what she’s doing any more than the mother of a 1-month-old baby? What are the greatest challenges and triumphs of motherhood? What we wanted to define was how mothering changes as children age - what we learned is that through years of challenges, heartache, and joy, once you’re a mother, “Everything changes. Everything.” Call your mom.

It was so moving... I had the blessing to be raised by a wonderful mother for 19 years until God called her. Now my SO and I are pregnant with our first baby and I feel super confident to give him/her everything my mama gave me. For me, the time to give back what I received has come. Thank you, my Lord.

OMG! I totally thought this was a different kind of video, now I’m laying here crying 😭! Motherhood is such a paradox in many different ways. I have 4 little ones and the days can definitely be hard, but my mom always tells how fast it goes by 🥹. We’re all just doing the best we can ❤️🙏🏿! I appreciate these moms for sharing.

My past self had always thought that I would be just a single company-woman, I love my career & I love my alone time, I was the shitty family member that wouldn't show up to family get-togethers. Never thought that I would get married & start a family. But here I am, married to a wonderful man & expecting our first child any day now. A whole new perspective has opened up to me & I'm excited to see these challenges head-on, some good character building.

Breastfeeding is good but there is a huge gender imbalance. I notice mothers breastfeeding their girls more and for longer than their boys. Do little girls need breastmilk more or something than little boys? Do little girls enjoy breastfeeding more than little boys? I need the truth!
