Yeah, sort of patriotic attitude, but also their experience with cabovers from old, and they preferred more room and a sleeper instead of tight cabovers. They would probably feel different now with modern cabovers now and how far they've come.

@@Nutella2004 oh definitely, even freightliner fixed the whole "hard to climb in" issue way back then by having an actual staircase swinging out to you but clearly the traditional slippery ladder steps are the safest option (sarcasm implied)

Yea but those KWs & Freightliners are specifically designed for those parts of the world/markets & also Australia. You'll never see those in the States. And besides a cabover is still a cabover.... A square box with no weight to it....

Absolutely fascinating variety of trucks in NZ. European style trucks like Volvo, Scania and Iveco alongside American trucks that you won't find in America - cabover Kenworths, Freightliners etc

'Cab-overs' are great, because they allow longer loads, relative to the overall length of the vehicle. Turning a cab-over in a tight area, is way easier than a long-nose anyday.

I also like checking out trucks in my channel! I visited the DAF museum in the Netherlands! I also recently saw some Renault Magnums! What an interesting blend of trucks in New Zealand, rare American trucks European trucks and even Japanese truck! But then I guess it's the geographic location that determines which is the best to pick from. American trucks offer comfort, I assume more power and payload. European trucks offer quality and brand reputation. Japanese trucks offer reliability. Here in Belgium (and the EU overall) you would never see this sort of combination! It's mainly European competitors. Greetings from Belgium!

Dunno, the Caribbean trucking channels have a similar variety just 30 years older, more old British stuff than scania or Merc. I'm just surprised at the size of them, why the need for doubles when you can only go 500miles before you need a boat?

@@zopEnglandzip 40 - 50 ton loads ...very windy roads here , especially the South Island . Heavy traffic speed is 90kph but it's not uncommon for long haul b-trains to be sitting on 110kph ... especially to make the ferry Cross 😁

I have a 24hr road service business (truck breakdown) in the Idaho Rockies & I grew up in Shannon. It's still raining & the place doesn't look much different except maybe the DC-3 next to the Club Hotel but the trucks sure do!

I love the red indicators (blinkers) on some of the truck and trailers, and is that a New Zealand army campervan at 13.25 minutes, great videos and cheers to you NZ trucks.

I don't like red indicators, when use the emergency lights while you hard breaking, the person behind don't know if it is an emergency breaking or a normal breaking or you have taillight malfunction. The North American vehicles implement the 3rd stop light for this problem in the 70s, meanwhile the European ones still have 2 stop lights until the 90s because we have got amber lights for indicators at the beginning

Brilliant video. Here in Adelaide Australia, we have a large selection of trucks, but the twin steer tractor units are not common. I also noticed the 4 axle single wheels on the trailers, which spread the load and only uses 8 wheels compared to 12 on a triple axle with double wheels.

I live in the U.S. in the south. I've never seen so many wheels on a truck! The cabs (if that's the right term) look very cool, almost sinister but in a comic book kind of way. I can imagine one of these trucks transforming into a action hero.

N.Z. doesn't have concrete highways like the U.S. More axles more weight, less damage to roads, dual steer causes less damage also, means less road tax. there's a reason for everything.

Reminds me of an extended trip to NZ in 2018, I noted quad steer was now quite apparent from my previous trip around 20 years before the 2018 trip. Quite interesting to note that every timber jinker was running a Centralised Tyre Inflation System (CTIS) on their drive axles. Also some of the tip trucks were running CTIS on their drive axles as well. Does it ever stop raining there? 🙂

The double steer is something we don't see in the states. Very cool. I'd like to have one of those cab overs. we see tandem trailers but I've not seen a trailer with a fifth wheel bet it pulls better.

Beautiful rigs ladies and gentlemen down under. I just have a question for y'all and drivers in Europe. Why cab-overs and not a lot of long noses? Seems to me the cab-overs would get horrible gas mileage.

The biggest benefit to Cab-Overs is size. In places like Europe, roads are very tight/narrow. Cab-overs are smaller, therefore can navigate tight roads better than conventional style trucks. Here in N.Z, as seen in this video, we use both Long-Nose and Cab-Over style trucks.

Infact some of these American brands still produce cabovers specifically for the New Zealand & Australian market. Kenworth still make cabovers in Australia, the current model are the K220's. International/Navistar also still make cabovers here in New Zealand, the International 9870.

How much total weight you get on 4-axel truck and 4-axel trailer together? Norway gives max 60 ton whatever you have of configuration. Single tipper 3-axel 26 ton. Single truck 4-axel 32 ton.

Heavy large tyre, there's a mega tyre also, Large single tyre 7200kg/7.9ton on that axle.. large double tyre 8209kg/9ton on that axle.. Steering Axle large tyre 7200kg ... A HPMV, permit can allow you, (it's been awhile) I'm sure it's 63tons you'll have to stay close, or on main Routes.

Roads are quite windy here.. you will never go straight for very long, twin steer wheels help weight distribution ease on front.. im not sure if you can see the other videos of trucks going on bends in hill and other areas in this channel.. you might notice the difference

@antonrasskazov9390 all I know is that they have one rear door to open. But on these curtains double trailers they have 20 to 25 buckles on each side.. and then you have to slide them. I can't see those buckles and curtains opening and closing very easily it will be struggle. Plus I think America has way more crime then here. Always hear like people stealing batteries, fuel, curtains would be a easy target too

Presumably these trucks are headed for the Hawkes Bay otherwise they would be going through Foxton on flat roads. When the new Manawatu Gorge by pass road is completed they probably won’t use this route. I was bought up in Shannon, Makerua more precisely but left before I could legally drink at the Club shown in the video or the Albion at the school end of town since burnt down as was Hyde’s picture theatre which use to be opposite the DC3 presumably pinched from Mangaweka.

To increase the max permissible load at the front of the truck. I drove a Scania R380 with such a configuration here in Sweden, some 10 years ago.

Large tyre.. 7200kg/7.9tons .. single wheel.. 8200kg/9 ton. Double wheel.. Steering Axle 7200kg .. It maxi's out at app' 63ton ?? After that, you apply for Special Certification..

The bigger the truck the larger the cargo, 3larger cargo carriers eliminates another truck from the highways, thats the reason.. Kiwis are very clever people, legend has it they've built some of these trucks with the magic Number 8Wire ...
