Love that cot system. Thanks for the honest review. We have a small toy hauler that has a tent bed, those bunks may be a alternative sleeping option on the cold winter nights. Use the tent for storage and sleep in the hard sided trailer with the stacked cots. I subscribed.

Terrific review! Took me about twice as long to build mine in my living room to test them out, I hate instructions. I was plain worn out when I finished building them. I found the mattress on Amazon and put it on my wish list, I don't think the grand kids would mind just sleeping on the cot but I don't want them to get cold at night, thanks for mentioning that.
@NewZonaRides8 жыл бұрын
wrangler Thank you. For us adults the pad makes a huge difference. Doubt kids even notice it. The very first time we set up the beds it was a Chinese fire drill. This was the second go at it and it went way smoother. LOL

Lol, Chinese fire drill....I was telling a little fib when I told you it took me twice as long. I had to stop and take a break... was saying some not to nice of things what I thought about the Disc-o-bed I would not want my little grand kids to hear...

If/when the time comes that you want to just sit or lounge...you can lower the front edge of the top bunk by removing the front wheels, then reinstall when in lowered position. You end up with a futon of sorts. Perfect for the space you have and very comfortable if you use one pad for the seat, one for the back.

for joanna /// if you were a little Claustrophobia the fear of being enclosed in a small space.. would sleeping on the bottom bother you??? how much room you got down there? if you switch to the top bunk how hard to get down in the middle of the nigh(t to potty)? how hard is it to make the bed? and is there good storage Underneath thanks. i really feel your honest people and love to see some indoor cooking... rana the wife
@Emjes7208 жыл бұрын
Dave Fyffe Hi Rana, thank you for watching! Let's start with the space underneath. I have not experienced claustrophobia but I can just imagine it is super tough. I can say that the space depends on the person on the top bunk. My Guy is tall and husky so he does narrow the space a tiny bit. But with that said, I can turn over from side to side comfortably and not feel like I am going to hit him. I can say I have some 'hips' on me and I feel totally comfy & not concerned about being on my side in the bottom area. I will measure on our next trip and give you a better spacing idea. To get in the bottom, I kind of sit on the edge, lean sideways and roll in. For the top, I did try laying up the a couple of times. And actually getting out was the hardest part for me! Because there isn't a bar across the middle, your tush does sink into the bed when you are sitting on top and your legs are on side. Even when I am sitting on the bed as I am in the "First night at RTR" video, in order to get down, I have to grab the cabinet across from the bed. As far as making it, we just have our Teton mats & sleeping bags on it so it is very quick & easy. And we have small totes, I would say maybe 6-8 inches high, that we can fit under the bed as well as the cases for the beds and our shower/potty tent. I have to say for the 2 of us, it is great. We tried a couple of different methods and by far, this is the one I am happiest with for us. The van is big but the only other idea was to go across the back with the bed and we really want to be able to keep some van functionality. So when the beds are out, we can still load up stuff including our motorcycle if we want! I hope this helps, let me know and thanks again for watching!

Did you have the extension pieces to make the top bunk higher or is that the standard height between beds?
@101perspective8 жыл бұрын
I just noticed that it looks like for the floor all you did was put a carpet down. I tried that but the grooves on the floor made it uncomfortable. So, what I did was take a piece of plywood and wrapped carpet around it. I then stapled the carpet to the plywood on the back... you don't want any staples on the top I think. I left a large open area on the back though and in that area I stapled a thick yoga mat... that way it won't slide around. To be honest, I doubt it would slide around much without the mat. Anyway, it made the floor a LOT more comfortable to walk on. Tables, chairs, etc, that I might set up in there also stay level now. And when I want to use the van for cargo I simply slide the carpet piece out. In your case you probably would want to do it in more than one piece since you have a ton more floor space than I do. So far it has worked well. My only concern with it was possible mildew or something growing between the carpet and the plywood. I pull it out and clean it good after each trip. I'll probably pull the carpet off and look under it in a year just to make sure. It was an old carpet anyway... so would be nice to replace it at that time. I may add a carpet pad also.
@NewZonaRides8 жыл бұрын
101perspective I actually didn't put anything down on the floor. That is just the factory mat with the pad on the back. It has been working fine so far and is easy to clean after a trip. I may do a floor later but it is down the list right now. Thanks for the tip though.

i understand these can also be used as twin beds (not stacked) but the one cot seems to have the head and foot pieces made be specifically to be on the bottom with those curved "feet"...and the other one specifically for the top. so how does the "top" one sit on the ground without the curved "feet"?
@NewZonaRides8 жыл бұрын
Tammy Delbruegge If you go to the website you can see pictures of the top bunk directly one the ground. It just has plastic feet that go in the ends of the tubing.

Hello guys, I just subbed your channel. I was at the 2017 RTR but don't remember seeing you guys. Actually there were about 400 people there that I didn't see as I am kind of an introvert as well. So are you still happy with your Disc O Bed? I have been looking at those beds myself and I just wonder how people like them. Your initial thoughts it seems like you two were happy with them. Safe travels guys :)
@NewZonaRides7 жыл бұрын
I am happy with the beds themselves. We have used then maybe 6 times since we bought them. They have been set up in the van the whole year. I never take em down. They are comfortable big time and sturdy as a house. I do still recommend them. That being said I am going to change my van setup again because I am never happy because I have OCD. So I will be selling these beds soon. The whole package with the pads. I will be at the next RTR. Maybe I will bump into you there.

Nice review. That said, I'm not following why you would get something like that for a van. That looks more like something you would take on a camping trip where you are setting up a tent or something in the woods. Anything you use in the van you are most likely going to set up and leave up the entire trip. So, you really don't have to invest in something so compact and fancy. What do I know though, my setup is just sleeping on the floor...lol.
@NewZonaRides8 жыл бұрын
I needed a sleep system that could sleep 2 people and could be taken out of the van easily so the van could still be used to haul stuff if I needed to. I am to big to sleep sideways in a van if 2 people were sleeping so this seemed like the perfect solution. I am happy to report for us it was. These beds also work as a couch but I forgot to show that.
@101perspective8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm no expert. I usually just go with the most basic setup. I'm solo though which makes it a ton easier. Maybe you will get some alternate ideas at the RTR.
