Samkelo is brilliant, I didn’t mention him in my initial comment because I consider him a specialist of the ANC, his knowledge of ANC internal workings is unparalleled, but that comes at a cost of not being as clear about other parties in isolation, but can communicate great commentary about other parties in relation to the ANC. In my opinion. That’s the sense I get from most of his analyses, not to say he is biased, but I suspect this may be a function of his having direct access to a lot of insider sources in the party and this may also be a result of his role at the SABC, guess someone else may see it differently.

This is how they lie with statistics folks, they simply ignore population growth. Let's say you have a town of 1000 job-seekers, 5% of which are unemployed, so 50 individuals. Assuming an overall growth rate (population and employment)of 20% per decade, you would now have 1200 residents of which 60 are unemployed, still 5%.. BUT if there is an influx of 1000 job-seekers combined with a stagnant economy you would have an unemployment rate of over 50%!! So, while the population has doubled, the unemployment rate has grown by a factor of 10!!!

It's simply bad analysis to just claim that the DA has increased unemployment more than any other party since 1994 when the DA was not in control of the WC until the late 2000s. Secondly, the number of inward migration is higher in the WC. This makes it much harder to reduce unemployment when job seekers from other provinces keep coming. Finally, a much better metric to use is JOBS ADDED per capita. A measure in which the WC exceeds all others.
