@ 1:29:00 or so: Subsituting brainscanning for artistry is not only an insult to artistry and all the potential it might have for real engagement with the art. It is more like corporate focus group baloney that I think we have all seen over time does not produce much in the way of interesting content.

Thanks again for the show, it is *easily* the best VR content on KZbin (and other podcast media). I have said this before, but you have somehow managed to put a team together who are informed without being irritating. [All of my friends are magicians (!) with zero interest in VR, or I would be getting them all to sign up]. Great show, really appreciated, and inevitable that figures will grow (it already stands at nearly 8 thousand views!) There is one topic that I would like you to cover - one that I think is of *real* interest to the VR community. What I am talking of is the security of Virtual Desktop going forward. 98% of my time is spent streaming PCVR using VD - without this, I would have never given in, signed a deal with the devil, and bought a Quest 2. Without it, my Q2 is a paperweight. Recently, I received an email from the overlords saying that I had to validate my 'developer status' by giving FB my credit card details (something I am not prepared to do!). So, I am concerned that by not doing so, I will be frozen out of VD at some point. I did post on the VD discord, and someone answered saying that if I had already signed up, I would still be able to download from Sidequest. He may well be right, but I feel sure FB will be working to close this loophole. I think an authoritative and decisive take on this would quell the anxieties of those who rely on VD and wish to continue using Sidequest.

Perfect lucid dreaming would give you the sci-fi levels of virtual reality you're looking for. Just a few issues with it: it's not easy to perfect, it's not consistent, obviously not "multiplayer", and because it's all in your head, it doesn't leave much of a lasting impression on you. But I don't get why people say you can't feel pain in dreams; I've always felt everything in dreams that I could feel in real life, sometimes even more. Anyway, that will keep me satisfied in the meantime.

at 1:52:00 or so Anthony makes the point that we haven't seen Quest 2 exclusive titles that require the new hardware. There are already titles that offer better textures/extra sprites etc. on Quest 2 than Quest 1. Also, the increased operating resolution and refresh rate (if your headset has the 90hz enabled) are both Quest 2 exclusive features. Great show. Also, I do like the scene switching on the fly so we can see a larger image of who is speaking.

Valid point by Steve about trauma. Think about it, if you could play a "game" that was written directly to your brain and looked totally real where you were storming the beach of Normandy on D-day it could seriously mess a lot of people up. But then that begs the question...what are we doing in the first place? Games have been steadily becoming more realistic since day 1. The goal of video games since their inception has been to replicate reality and although pong was a quite crude representation that was nonetheless the idea. As tech improved we've continued to improve on things to make it more of a realistic representation of the real life experience. If we don't like the idea of a totally realistic simulation or find it dangerous (which It most likely would be) then why are we continuing to progress down that road of increased realism in the first place?

Did you ever see that (old) movie called Brainstorm starring Christopher Walken and Natalie wood? It was exactly about a technology like this, a brain interfaced new reality where you could record the experiences and feelings of other people and then download it into your own brain. In the movie storyline, they actually record the experience of a persons death and what happens to them after they die. It was a cool concept. Interestingly enough the director was Douglass trumbull, a visionary visual fx pioneer,, inventer from the time (2001, Blade Runner, Close Encounters etc).It was his vision of where he felt the not too distant future was really going to go in. I still think though a technology like this, is something we’re not ready for. It would be abused and turned into something nightmarish. Addiction to it, it being used for some pretty dark stuff, a black market that would emerge for doing awful, illegal things with it.....the mind boggles. No, no, no. The chances of experiencing a traumatic event and completely breaking your mind....no thanks. Yes, it would have an amazing positive side and the educational and entertainment and in industry...quantum leap there. But we as humans, we are too good at taking something good and using it for something very, very bad.

For the quest 3 I want the ipd slider back or no buy. I bought quest 2 day 1 and returned it as there was black bars on the side of the screen. Ipd setting 1 and 2 made it blurry and hard to see so if they can just put the ipd slider in I’ll be happy as can be with the product. Quest 1 was perfect for me with that slider. Also I put the glasses spacer in like people recommended it and it helped a little bit but it wasn’t ideal for me.

I love your podcast! The 4 of your a great together. I primarily listen to it through my audio podcast service when I'm commuting. Tetiana's audio isn't very good and the volume for her is a bit too low. It'd be great if you can increase her volume a bit. Also, in a couple of the earlier podcasts, the rest of you talk over Tetiana a bit too often. I'm not sure if the talk over is because she has a softer voice that the rest of your don't notice as much or if it relates to greater lag on her connection.

My only question is, What will be the Quest 3 price tag be??? It is now Oct 2022, It may be launched at the earliest in 2023 - summer next winter time frame. It has to be much better than what the Quest 2 is for me to be interested. It would have run PCVR games at native speeds and optics wise. I can't break away from my Direct Display Port connections with my current VR headsets to the graphics card. I am not holding my breath with Yukkaburgs concepts of what new Meta Quest headsets provide - he is more into Socializing than gaming - I am not. Thanks for the video. take care.

I really hope to see the quest 2 and pcvr just merged together. Quest is obviously the hardware format that the market wants. Simple, wireless, plug'n'play out of the box(without the plug part!) But Q2 feels like a sub-par device, and that's the greatest problem. No one wants a restricted list of downgraded games, especialy if the few flagship titles are missing(half life) And we need a easy, newbie friendly integration of full body tracking.

Actually it's not so much the hardware, but the software the VR developers need to improve. I had a 30 percent coupon for Oculus last week and really I couldn't find anything tempting to buy! All the best is still only available for PC and consoles. The best games really worth it are Half Life and a handful of others. Cyberpunk? This should be in VR. What good is the hardware with crappy stuff to use. If you buy it just for Flight Simulator and X-Plane... great! Pavlov.. ok but still not complete.. There are some cool stuff, but it gets dry at some point. And I can't understand how the theatre industry doesn't take advantage of VR in this pandemic! Imagine watching a Broadway or off-Broadway play live in VR....

There is barely any difference between AR and VR, they are (or will be) essentially the same thing when considered from a mixed environment perspective. They both overlay digital objects to physical terrain. (Or have the ability too) The liability considerations are the same, probably more complicated for AR, especially if used in public settings. Pass through or a controlled environment negates the issue of “third party” objects causing potential injury. Proper BCI is decades away. Lol

I find it kinda funny that people get very excited by Valve and this CBI company getting all this data directly from your brain and even interacting with your brain but panic over Facebook having eye tracking for example. Guys, data is the new currency, Facebook isn't the only company that harvest data, every company analyse this, even to improve their product. But if you're so worried about being spied on, or people getting your data, you should also fight Valve, because believe me, they will also explore your data, makes no sense criticize Facebook but praise Valve. Also nobody is considering the health impact of this, maybe is not safe to mess with your brain like that, and all this sensor and frequent radiation in your skull with all these sensors.

BCI, that can send visuals and feelings to your brain is 50-100 years away. Great, futuristic AR is at least 10 years away. AR games, like Custom Home Mapper, will be so boring, if you want to play games like Fallout, Elder Scrolls or HL: Alyx - because you'll get the same level design over and over again (that is:the layout of your house/apartment), unless you want to play outside looking like a fool and running into trees, etc.
