Actually Chris Tucker had become world famous cuz of Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and was already committed to Rush Hour 2 which would pay him tons more money than another Friday movie so Ice Cube had to find a suitable replacement which wound up being Epps. The clowning of the next door Mexicans is what made Next Friday so popular and successful I don’t think Epps character Day Day was anywhere near as funny as Smokey. Also RIP to ROACH who committed suicide and is no longer with us.

RIP Justin Pierce (Roach), John Witherspoon, and Tommy Tiny Lister (Debo) Pierce tragically passed away at age of 25 and his character in Friday franchise was retired/written off he's never mentioned or even explained why he's not the third one. Lister and Witherspoon were suppose to return for the fourth one but wb/new line doesn't want to make it and cube has been trying for years to get rights to franchise since Witherspoon before he passed away he ask cube when are they making a fourth one which never happened due to his passing leaving his character fate unknown and Lister would later pass away it was revealed that Craig and Debo were now cool/made peace with each other in one of the scripts rejected by WB. On May 7, 2021 Ice Cube opened up about two potential scripts he had written for the film. The first one would have focused on Craig and Day-Day trying to survive in prison after having their Cannabis Dispensary stolen by a Flash mob. They both would have then found themselves in a Rehabilitation hospital run by Smokey. Cube did not give any precise details on the second script although he stated it would have focused around a love story. On October 1, 2022 an episode with Drink Champs Ice Cube revealed Warner Bros who owns the distribution rights of the film series had rejected the scripts citing creative differences and while Tucker previously stated he is not committed to return for the film Ice Cube is still in good relations with Tucker with the latter to reprise his role as Smokey uncertain

This used to be my least favorite Friday, the third one was my second favorite after the first one. But over years, this one grew on me. Now Next Friday and Friday After Next are about equal to me. 2 and 3 aren’t as “classic” as the first but both equally funny for different reasons. If you have more of a preference for drama, the first Friday might appeal to you more because it has more serious stakes, with drama erupting all around - up to the point that it’s not even safe to walk down the street. In this one, the worst thing that could happen is the loss of property. To me, you can at least afford to have a lot more fun before things reach their breaking point, making this movie less stressful and a whole lot more fun.

Next Friday and Friday After Next are definitely funnier than Friday because Friday isn't REALLY a comedy, it's a slice-of-life hood movie. There's not many "make you laugh" scenes in Friday and any comedy in it is mostly situational (while in Next Friday you have scenes like Day Day getting chased by Baby D or Willie struggling to hold his poop in, which are strictly for comedic purposes). Outside of the characters, Friday feels like it's in a totally different franchise from the other two movies. The original point of Friday was to make a movie about the hood in a more lighthearted manner without a bunch of people dying or going to jail. After that, to be more "commercially" appealing, the other two were made as wacky stoner comedies. Essentially, Next Friday and Friday After Next are gentrified versions of Friday lol.
