I think everyone is different but I think I would make my characters for the cards separately from the card itself. This way in photoshop I have my card design layer and on the next layer would be my monster or human design. This would be nice because you can alter the positioning of the monster or human without the need to go back into the editor and waste credits and such.

is there a way to do consistent characters with invoke ai? meaning i can use the same character in mulitple images with completely different prompts, for example taking a character from one trading card and using it in a different one?

AI can't do text yet, you need to add that in a photo editing software after you come up with a design you like

There is no direct way to edit text in AI, but you can use any photo editing software to do that
