The best thing about him is that, when ever he spoke to me he would speak of some other kid, his this friend and that friend who are so good at this and that. "This guy draws so well, that guy is the smartest kid in our class" Even back then I wished he would grow up to have the same spirit. I used to wonder what happens when we grow up that we lose such good qualities about ourselves. 11:17 I think..... focus line doesn’t work like that... The closest to camera ring wouldn’t be in the focus at all, because focus line is far behind. I think focus line works not like flat scanner parallel to the table, but perpendicular to it... like sphere? Is it so, guys? I rly doubt 🤷🏻♂️🤔
@alpertwang40034 жыл бұрын
Yep, if the ring on the foreground is in focus, then what's in focus of the background should be the same distance to the sensor (or at least to the lens, if the subject isn't very close), in Peter's case, it should be the part of the wood board under the ring, not the part behind the ring.
@edwardv3654 жыл бұрын
i just cant help but notice that too, it doesnt match the focus line at all. He couldve used a higher aperture so that the three rings can all be in focus without using fake blur.

I am a subscribe to your channel and have been a professional photographer/instructor for 50+ years. One thing that I wish that you and most project focused KZbinrs would do is show the finished product at the beginning of the video to capture the interest of the viewer. I have watched many diy or project focused videos only to have wasted my time when I was not interested in the final product. Sure, I can scroll to the end and and find the end result, but that is another waste of time. The majority of your videos are extremely interesting and for the most part, were worth the viewing. I always love seeing the results first because it is easier to understand the process and more interesting to see the process, knowing the great result at the end. Hope you took my comments as constructive; if I did not like your channel I would not have spent time suggesting ways to improve. Hi Peter a little constructive feedback. As others have mentioned, the depth of field of the closest ring incorrectly matches with the image. For efficiency I would've done the following from the start - if others agree please like this comment: 1. Found one depth of field you were happy with. You stated throughout your video to have consistent lighting etc but forgot manual focus. The one at 7:40 seems like the one you should've used, since it had the ring you most wanted in focus. 2. Keeping the camera in manual focus (the same as 7:40) test out how much the rings #2 and #3 would appear blurred in their mocked positions. If needed, increase the F-stop to ensure all 3 will have enough focus to your taste. 3. Once happy with the fstop, simply take a photo of rings #2 and #3, which will already be blurred in-camera, no post-blurring required. Only masking would be required in post. 4. Finish up with your lighting / colors / styling. Also, at 11:07 you're trying to account for the foreground blur, but you were actually doing it in reverse and it wouldn't of matched the image anyways, as the ring technically would've ended up being completely blurred at that distance from the camera trying to match with the image you took. Again, love you and your videos. I'd suggest making a follow up video admitting what needed to be corrected. It would actually show a lot of courage to admit you were wrong, and show a lot of integrity.

I did a similar thing with nail-paint bottles. I used very thin transparent fishing lines to suspend the bottles in their respective positions (Later removed in PS). I used super-glue to stick the fishing lines to the bottles. Also, I made sure that they floated differently with respect to perspective and positions. The fishing lines were suspended from a metal mesh from above which gave me plenty of options and precise positions for hanging. This way, I only need one shot and later process it in PS. :)

Super dope video! you inspired me to get into photography and film making! I even started my own channel that I post photo challenges on! Thank you Peter!
